Has anyone here from maryland or ca took their bike to Holdingitbig.com . Their a bike service center in maryland and CA if Iread their webpage right about being in ca too.

I email them to ask for prices on the 600 mile service and prices on oil changes alone.

here is what he wrote me in his email.

Thanks for your email. We'd love to work on your bike for you, and be your go-to shop from now on out. Congrats on the bike purchase. The first service is important, but not very expensive. It's under $100. Oil changes from there on out by themselves are usually in the $65 range depending on the oil type and quantity. You have a 250, so that will probably take a quart or two less then normal, so that would end up being cheaper then $65. To give you a better idea, the labor cost on an oil change is only $32.50 so the rest of the cost is oil filter & however much oil it takes. Best deal in town.

Give us a call or stop by anytime. We can work on this whenever it's convenient for you.

So I am going to take my bike there for services and stuff. I don;t enjoy dealer prices. thought some of you other guys looking for a cheaper price might like to know this.

They offer other services too like delivery, putting on aftermaket stuff .

their website is holdingitbig.com

Interesting. I might take my bike up there for my 600 mile service. I've already changed my oil, but don't know how to do the valves, and don't feel like taking off a lot of parts, etc that it takes to do.

I seriously doubt that they are checking the valves as part of the "under $100" 600-mile service.

I am honestly not sure about the valves being part of the 100 dollar price and I bet yor right. I know my honda dealer wants 320.00 dollars to do everything for the 600 mile seervice from what the service department told me the other day. I had thought it was 250 dollars from what the salesman said .At my honda dealer just stuff like the oil change and just to check that all the parts besides valves are working is 160.oo and then if I want them to check the valves it is about anther 160.00. The service department said a lot of people wait till the bike hits 4000 miles to do the valves. I will wait myself till 4000 miles. I still think this place holdingitbig will be cheaper and I am taking my bike there. I just call my dealer to get a real price.

$32.50 for labor on an oil change?!?!?! please tell me you aren't really doing that.
IT TAKES 20 MINUTES TO DO AND YOU ONLY REMOVE LIKE 5 BOLTS
20 mins for you, 3 hours for me when I do something wrong lol. I never work on a engine and I am not about to start on a new 4000 dollar bike and a new undamaged engine to save just a few dollars.

Also for docrocky55 , I live in hagerstown but that service center I am talking about is in fredrick MD which I pass on my way to work and back Home

I wouldn't trust my valve inspections to anyone other than Honda, unless I had prior good experience with them or bulletproof testimonials from people I trusted.

Anyone in the US that says $100 for a 600 mile service is demonstrating that they are clueless before you even take the bike in. Don't do it.

Not a big difference. It's the same price my powerhouse honda dealer told they would charge for simple oil/filter change. But 600mile service with valve inspections and overall checks and lubing cost more than just oil change.

He's right though. The oil change on these is VERY easy.

billyapb1071, it's your bike and your $, do what you are comfortable with.

However, these folks are also trying to get you to better understand your motorcycle. That normally leads to better maintenance and safer riding.

maybe one day I will do it on my own . I know what they are trying to say and I def appreciate it , I just don't feel comfortable enough to do that. I have a way of messing up simple things.

I plan to do some things on my own like cleaning the chain etc but the engine to me is a place I would be afraid to mess with. I am going to check out the thread though on oil changes. who knows , maybe I will try it one time on my own if it is as simple as you all say.

Thanks though for the advice.

Well Wynne, once you are retired you may be willing to do it again.

It is actually quite satisfying to re-shim the valves when adjustment is needed. Having an "extra" bike to ride while you are working on the "regular rider" also aids patience and satisfaction with the job.

Agreed... for me, "turning the wrenches" on my bikes is a big part of the whole motorcycle experience, and I enjoy doing it. And particularly on a motorcycle ridden off road, out in the middle nowhere, it is reassuring to know that you have a bike that you know and can work on should a repair be needed. When you ride the roads and trails less traveled, one needs to be self reliant, and ready to fend for yourself.
