Do check, sometimes casting flaws will leave off excess trails like the one in the picture. From the image, I can see those cracks have emerged perpendicular to the oil filter bolt, probably over tightening could have cause mild stress cracks. Eitherway, if it's an casting flaw, you can buff it off, but if the cracks have crevices, then they are cracked, and it's better to replace the cover.
