Most manufactuers want an early check on things like valve clearance - small imperfections in cast and forged parts will wear down/off quckly, and the likelihood of a significant change in adjustment is higher. Keeping the valves in adjustment will give you more power and longer engine life.
I agree with the other posters. Time to find another dealer if possible. If not, I would schedule the service anyway. If you're mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself, but buy at least one shim from the dealer (even if you don't need it) to assure that you don't have to argue later on.
