Doesn't need done?

So I just called me local shop to schedule the 600 mile service. I told them I already changed the oil so I just needed whatever needed to be done with the valves. The service guy says "You don't need that done..it will be fine. Unless you want to spend the couple hundred bucks." "So what would you do?" "Just check the blots and stuff, make sure everything is tight" "Ah, so I guess I really don't need you." "Nope."

So, was he in any way correct? Is it a waste of money, or should I just go ahead and book it anyways?

for mine , i was quoted $70-$110 for the oil change and another $140 for the valve check (if I wanted that done?) Dealers charge $70 an hour and they go by whatever the book says to charge tho I have learned that alot (like mine) will charge you more than the book if it takes them longer than that to do it ( yes its wrong- but what can we do about it) then add in misc shop charges..aka- screw you over for more profit...and finally sales tax

I will do my own oil change and put in a new filter for less than $10 and 30 minutes of my time next spring...I think its downright outrageous and inherently wrong to get charged over $100 for that

I hear ya. The guy at Sloan's told me $275 for everything and then said it would be their first one in and it could run up to $350 and I pressed back with a " you have trained mechanics and go buy the labor guide right " and he said "just bring it in and I will make sure we hit the $275 price point."

I mean what good does it do to go by the labor guide if your going charge more anyway.. But they will get my business far and away faster that Cool Springs Honda will. I have still been thinking about emailing the GM there to see if he cares to straighten that ordeal out with their service department.
600 Mile Service

Cost of 600 mile service was $158.00 (US), that included checking the Valves. I asked them about it as I was giving them the Bike and at first the service manager said that it wasn't required. I pointed out that it was listed in the owners manual as required maintenance. The service manager told me if it's in the book they will do it. After they checked the Honda service schedule the Service Manager told me he was suprised but no big deal just part of the service. I got the impression that they would have followed the Service schedule and checked the valves even if I had not mentioned it.

I added the pic to just to see if I could.
