Dumped it first day

Hello, i am new to this forum and id like to say hey.

Anyway back to the story. I am a brand new rider, 17 years old and just got a brand new CBR250R. I pretty new to bikes. I rode about 70-85 miles today and i was turning around in a gravel parking lot going about 10MPH and the bike kicked out from under me. I was not harmed but it did leave some scratches on the muffler guard and the end of the right handlebar. I drove it home and it ran fine but i noticed my my handlebars were a bit crooked. It's barely noticeable but still, i think when i go in for the routine maintenance check up at 500-600 miles, ill have em fix it then, any thoughts? and yes, now i know to stay away from gravel. One last question, where is the odometer? i see the trip, but not the actual odometer. Thanks!

sorry to hear about your spill,good thing its not an expensive 600cc like many would say.

the odometer is in the same spot as your trip,you have to press MODE and it will switch over.

so now you have an excuse to paint the exhaust shield.and or buy a new exhaust

yeah, i thought about getting a new exhaust, but honestly, its not worth the money to me for it to have a little more HP and make it sound like a lawn mower. and i dont think ill paint it, i like the silver. Id buy a new one but from what i understand, theyre pretty pricy.

Parts are really cheap for these things. It didn't scratch the plastics? Here's the stuff you need. Compliments http://www.lakecityhonda.comof my local dealer parts finder found on their website. You can order online from them and have them shipped. I'm assuming your from Wisconsin by your name so it wouldn't be very much for shipping.

Sorry to hear that. Glad there was no injury to you and only minimal injury to the bike. Just remember the next time your in gravel slow and subtle movements. It may sound like a dirt bike but it doesnt handle the no-road like one!

Before you buy a new clip-on for the grip, make sure it didn't just twist a little bit on the fork tub it is clamped to. You may be able to loosen the clip-on on that side and straighten it.

Press the <mode> button on the instrument cluster to toggle between trip and odometer. Press <reset> and hold for 5 secs to clear the trip.

How cool if my BR sounded like the mower. It's a weed and brush mower with a 14 horse Kawasaki v twin, at idle it sounds like a Ducati with a bad attitude.

And yeah, ill take dirtbike over lawn mower. And i have taken the MSF course and read the manual. it was seriously a silly spill on my part. Like i said, i am pretty new to motorcycling, everybody dumps at least once.

Is it more goofy that he didnt read the manual to figure it out or that he actually posted a thread about it?
Could be worse, the four page thread about people discussing how to put gas in beats this by far. Or the 'wheres the oil dipstick thread."
Im still waiting for the "how do I put air in my tires thread."

Ya the gas thread is dumb. I mean I don't like the setup but there was a reason after all. So that the nozzle has somewhere to stop it to fill it up properly lmao.

hey man i'm 17 too and just got the cbr... i got it last saturday so 6 days ago. First day I had to ride it 50 miles home from VA to MD, and that was like my 3rd time on a bike after MSF course... and **** that was one of the scariest/funnest times of my life haha. I had the choice to deliver it but I was like no way. I am very grateful that I didn't drop it / crash or anything. Biggest suprise for first time being on the bike was the wind resistance, thought i was gonna get blown off entire time on highway.

I was also wondering why I was going only like 65 in 6th gear and with pretty high revs. I guess thats how 250s are, so I dont plan on going on the highway again anytime soon.

Anyway congrats on the bike and I'll make sure to stay away from gravel now.

n1, you can go a good bit beyond 65 on the cbr250, you just need to tuck in and lay on the gas tank to avoid the wind. However I would avoid the highway for at least the first 300 miles and/or until you feel more comfortable on the bike in general.
