The current standard exhaust outer cover ( the silver frame) is easily scratched and will leave ugly marks even with slight knock /abrasion.

Is this a common problem? Any suggestions?

Nothing that I know of has come in contact with mine but I did notice a bunch of scratches the other day. I haven't hit anything so something must've hit it while I was riding.
