After months and months of procrasation and lots of second thoughts ....... I put a big downpayment on a new 2012 CBR250r (black and silver, non-abs)...I pick it up Thursday afternoon.
Thought lots on what bike I should get for "touring" this year.....
I went on LOTS of trips last year on my 08 CBR125r...put on over 6000 kms worth of trips on that wonderful little bike. Loved every mile ...just wished for a little more umpph when passing and just in general (I think the the 250 should cure this) .
Bought a 99 Yamaha V-Star 650 Custom because everyone said this would work for my trips, etc. Welllllllll...after 45 mins in the seat my tailbone and lower back kill me !!!!!! My little CBR is wayyyyy more comfortable ...hands down. The "cool" factor is great on this bike....loud pipes...nice saddlebags...drag handlebars...etc. BUT I still enjoy the CBR better.
My buddy bought a 03 V-Strom 1000...nice bike but something I just didn't like...I don't know what it is but just not my cup of tea !!
Though about lots of different bikes (the new NC700 really interests me)......but kept coming back to the CBR250r !!
I can't wait to put some miles on this bike.....will let you know how I am enjoying it this summer...already have a couple of trips planned !!

Yes and No !!!!
He is the one that bought the V-Strom......but he can't bring himself to sell the CBR125r !!! He loves it too. Soooo easy to ride and drive !!! Just lots of fun......he too just wanted a bigger bike for trips. He is planning on just using it for "running around town ".
But he (and his family-brother and dad) think you NEED a 1000cc or bigger for travelling !! I just know how much fun the weeBR is .......AND so should the 250r !!!!! LOL

Oh, hope he keeps the thing. A stable mate for the v-strom. One can never have too many bikes in their garage lol. I have a single car garage and I have a HD, Veradaro, the 250 and a Mini. :D Bikes get preferencial treatment. Jeep sits outside in the elements

Hi folks, first post. I'd like to acknowledge and thank the Administrators and members of this forum for such a helpful and respectful atmosphere! Good on you!
I just tipped 200kms on my 2012 CBR250r tonight (got is on Saturday). The little bugger is an absolute smile-maker. Taking it easy is killing me but I can already tell that it'll have no trouble keeping up with local highway traffic. In my little town of 10,000 it's just begging to go. The guys with the big bikes are all sitting at the picnic tables at 'Hortons watching me ride around like a teenager while they sip coffee (I'm 45) - reminds me of my RZ350 days in the "80s :)
I'm also well aware that I won't be riding to Inuvik with my buds on this bike but for anything within a days ride I'll be right in with my buddies on their V-Stroms.
Looking forward to some great people and posts. Thanks!

Be careful of what you say ...... I didn't think I would be taking 3000 km trips on my CBR125r either. But these bikes are addictive. Great bikes and a ton of fun to ride !!
I am planning a trip in August from Central Alberta to the B.C. Coast and Island !!! I plan on riding the CBR250r with my bike being the smallest by 750cc (everyone else ride litre bikes or bigger) AND I don't plan on being last !!! (I am still going to ride like a sane person !!) LOL AND I will get better mileage than any of them !!! LOL

Vstrom is a sweet bike but its too huge for a lot of people. This little cbr is pretty darn fun, the most I have done is 10 hours a day and while at the end of the day my ass was sore for like 8-9 it held up pretty well (of course, not a straight 10 hours but 10 hours of tripping before calling it a day). I have a few road trips planned myself this summer too! Congrats on the bike!

L2R = Live to Ride!!

Depending which way you come you'll pass some of the best riding in BC. Do you have the book called "destination highways". Vancouver Island is a great place to ride and Victoria is nice to visit.

I just looked and can't find my copy, I suggest buying it if you don't have it. It will make your trip to BC a lot more enjoyable.

Felix,
Thanks for the suggestion BUT I already got that book...and have been studing it like crazy !!! I picked it up this spring at the "bike show" in Edmonton. It's a great book (and a little pricey) but worth it if I ride in B.C. as much as I want to !!! Yeah I can't wait to make my way out there, again !! Rode my CBR125r to Vernon and area last year and had a blast so I still can't wait to do it all over again this year on my new bike . Really enjoy Creston to the Kootenay Ferry and also the ride from Kaslo to Nakusp was pretty fun too. Also rode down to Kelowna and down across the bottom of B.C. on the way home. Can't wait to do it ALL AGAIN !!!!!! :D

Well, you've been on some of the best roads. Get to Whistler? I'm leaving for Vernon in the morning, I love the Okanagan. Bed time, I'll keep in touch.

Ride safe, Feliz !!!

No, I haven't been out that far yet !!! Hope to see Whistler this year !!And the Island !!! I too love the Okanagan...just wished I could see it more !! LOL

^ This :D

I'm not sure what the cruising speed up there would be on long country roads, but yeah, you'll definitely be getting further than they will on the same price haha

Glad you love the bike, it's my first bike and I don't regret getting this one over the Ninja. A mate of mine has a Ninja, I rode it once and definitely love my Babyblade.
