Hi everyone, so I bought my CBR Monday night and am just waiting on them to get the parts I wanted in and install them before I have it delivered later this week.

I went ahead and got frame sliders. When i was picking them out of the catalog in the parts department the service guy told me that it was a big misconception that frame sliders will protect fairings any if i drop the bike or whatever...this didnt sit right with me because I've heard plenty of people say that they DO provide some degree of protection to the fairings depending on the angle the bike goes down at.

So I told him I still wanted the sliders and picked out a set of PSR's, since apparently ordering the Yoshi ones would have taken about a week longer since the closest warehouse was out.

Did I make the right choice here?

They help with standing drops or really slow speed drops.

I'm not so sure how good they'll be at speed though.
Perhaps I'm just paranoid but I can see in my mind the slider catching on the surface (bump, pothole, debris, etc..) at speed and flipping the bike.

I wouldn't hesitate to put fork & swingarm sliders on my personal bike but I won't be putting frame sliders on it.

That's just me though. There are plenty of folks here that have installed frame sliders on their bike and are happy with them.
Basically, it's "to each their own".

One jerk hit my former bike (Hyo 250R) at a parking lot and it didn't have frame sliders. The result?

Broken brake lever
Broken brake pedal
broken right fairing

All my bikes have had either engine guards or frame sliders. That said I'm looking at swing arm sliders for my cbr500ra.

I have StreetBikes Unlimited frame sliders on my 2013 CBR that was my first purchase after the bike because im OCD about keeping new things new looking and sure enough i was riding at about 25-30 mph and downed my bike it slid a few feet and hit the ground pretty hard and my frame slider pretty much took 99% of the damage other than a scuff on the bar end that isnt very noticable. Sliders are the Best investment ive made since owning my bike

Hi there.

Food for your thought:

If you fell (I hope you wont), would you damage the fairing or the bike's bone structure? Since sliders are erected from the body frame..

I heard that only T-Rex sliders have the best to offers for the protection of the fairings and at the same time with less possibility of damaging the bike's inner frame.

Not really sure what youre asking here... I was under the impression that the REAL point of frame sliders was to protect the innards of the bike (frame included) by mitigating the force taken by the side of the bike in a drop to degree. Are you trying to say that frame sliders are bad for the bikes frame?

Someone will always say they are either good or bad. Lemme ask you this: what are the chances of you dropping the bike in the driveway vs sliding down the pavement? Odds are if it's sliding down the pavement at speed it's going to be totaled anyway just from the cost of fairings regardless if the sliders bend the frame. Sliders will help in small tip overs (they've saved my bikes a bunch of times) especially with the fairings. Sliders are good for everyday use.

When a bike goes down at speed you will get considerable damage. I had Crash Bobbins’ nylon frame sliders on my previous bike (CBF600N) when I dumped it at 45mph on spilt diesel on a wet winter road two years back. We parted company and it slid for about 20 yards, missing other traffic, before coming to a stop. My armoured knees and elbows stopped serious injury. The CBF would have been going home on a pickup truck if not for the right frame slider. It was ground down to half its original size....but it 100% effectively protected the protruding radiator and right hand sump. I would have been lifting it up from a pool of oil and coolant if not for that frame slider. I got it home under it’s own power, although the rear brake lever was completely bent up and a bunch of other cosmetic damage.

I know the CBR250R is a completely different design and more compact, so less likely to be damaged the same way ...but I have already fitted a cheap set of ebay sliders just for my own peace of mine. No drilling required and can be installed by removing the bottom half of the fairing mounting bolts and easing the panels forward a few inches to get access behind.

I would have fitted a set of Yoshimura’s but I did not feel they would offer any additional protection and are way more expensive.
