Had a read around and about to buy one of these cheap Thai made commuters for putting around on :) had a sit on it at the LBS and very impressed for what it is.

BUT.....

It sounds like it does not come with an owners manual from what I have read here so far...

-Why is it not a 4 cylinder?
-Why does it sound like single?
-Why doesnt the Tacho go up to 18,000 rpm?
-How fast does it go... I'd like to at least 280kph?
-Is there a bodykit like an 1148SP available?
-Can I buy stuff on the internet?
-Does Bling go faster?
-Can I make it sound like an '08 Speed Triple?
-Will Holden V8 GTS headers fit?
-Will it be faster than my old 955i Daytona?
-Can I fit the powerbands from my RZ500?
-Will it use less fuel than my 1980 CB125n?
-Is there a program where I can hack Hondas fuel injection from my laptop?
-Can I run it on dirty old fuel?
-What is an air filter?
-Can I lower it, fit neons, a subwoofer and a cannon?
-Will the chain rust iff I dont lube it?
-Whats it like off road?
-Will ABS kill me?
-Will I kill ABS?
-Do I have to run it in or valve bounce it straight out of the showroom?
-What are valves?
-If it vibrates will the piston fall out?
-Will my girlfriend like the vibrations?
-Can I ride it all day or will it get so hot it overheats?
-If it blows up will my balls be safe?
-Can I fill it up quickly on pitstops?
-Can I fit the centrestand from a Goldwing?
-Can I take off in 5th gear?
-Can I go straight from 5th to neutral?
-Does it come in automatic?
-Whats it like for stoppies?
-Should I learn how to do wheelies before trying one?
-Do I have to learn to ride a motorcycle?
-My friend says a Ninja 250 is the fastest bike anyone can buy but he cant ride for $hit... should I buy that, a Fatboy, or a Beemer?
-Will Simoncelli take every rider out this year?
-Why is Stacey Moaner a whinger?

-Will I fit in on this site? :p

On a more serious note ....
went to local Honda dealer today and ABS models are available to order,
Yoshi pipes coming in the next few weeks (I like the triangular profile )& Tail tidy kit also avail.

While I was there he downloaded the manual and answered the endless (repetetive) posts on here re servicing....
1000km first service includes valve clearance & oil/filter change (not free labour like on some dirtbikes etc)
12,000klm /12mnth services there after.

Advised 6000km oil changes which is up to customers preference.

If they sell me the Yoshi It will not void warranty.

No test rides avail but for the first time in dozens of new bikes over the years i'll take a chance on this one.

Now to scrape up the approx $7k .. and i'll be one happy camper.

Well after 2 months and 280 posts stirring up this forum,
today I went and laid down $6390 in cold hard cash for my new Black ABS.

They are licencing it, doing the Pre-delivery and charging the battery this afternoon.

They gave me the owners manual to read
(oh and 99% of the questions asked on this forum ARE in it lol)
Hoping for sunny spring weather in the morning.

Hey, hope you like the bike. Now you will be stirring a different pot. I did not realize you did not have the cbr, must have missed that post. Any way looking forward to hearing what you think of it. I think mine is one of the best bikes I have owned. Tied with the yamaha rz(in US) 350. Rz had better power, but I believe the cbr handles better. I think the cbr feels cheaper, but that is ok, I dont notice it when I am riding it. Hope the weather holds for you.

First Impressions.

First thing I noticed is how delicate controls are ..mebbe its just me not being in the saddle for a few yrs and used to big bore sportsbikes.
Clutch and throttle are featherweight.
2 finger braking is a piece of cake.
Light on the hand controls is my riding style Dirt or road so suits me fine.

The rear Brake and gear levers need dropping a few mm ..I'll do that tomorrow.

The mirrors are perfect.. not many sportsbikes give such visibility, and its the first single cyl that they dont rattle like Ozzie Osbourne.

The dash is well thought out and looks very upmarket for a budget bike.

I thought the bars would be too high for me but they are fine.. its the pegs that need those Yoshi 35mm back/35mm up brackets.
The bike is so slim but fits my tall lanky 182cm/79kg like a glove and no prob moving off the side on tight cornering.

I took the long way home and went up the mountain (hill for you kiwis) and around the coast to carefully scrub in the tyres a bit but she's still got more chicken strips than KFC... when they get heat into them they work very well.

Its a sweet steerer, dont even have to think about corners or moving your line for road impefections... Hard to believe it weighs 165kg

Front could do with some more rebound damping, it gets a bit pogo over bumps at speed... but as temporary fix I'll back the rear preload off to balance it out a bit... being new its rock hard.
So is the seat.. I think its made of concrete.

Pulls surprisingly well for a 250ml cupful one lunger, keeping it between 4-6500... 100kph is an effortless 6000rpm, and the fuel injection smooths out the single cylinder like no single Ive ever ridden, especially in crawling traffic in town.

I thought the gearing would be too tall (as usual for ADR compliant bikes) but it pulls it well.. maybe down the track one or 2 teeth more on the rear at most.
The Carbon Akrapovic slip-on from Biohazard cycles will be spot on with its huge torque increase right where its wanted.

Aerodynamics are very well thought out... slices thru the breeze.

Now as for the silly ABS debate Ive read so much about here... it works a treat, and the combined braking does not make the front dive, I believe the abs model might have more total stopping power... Its got a 3 piston front for starters.
Ive waited an extra 2 months for a Black CABS, but at $400 its a bargain.
The brakes were a bit wooden feeling for the first 50km (understandably for a new bike) but later in the day I tested both brakes HARD.. and it stops well. Braided lines possibly in the future purely for feel.

107km later I'm happy as a pig in poo :)

Post purchase satisfaction??... you betcha!

Today I feel 17 again. :D

Awesome pics. I wish I had a massive fire to take pictures in front of. And I had to remove 3 stickers from my fuel tank, you only have one. I couldn't stand the government-mandated warnings blaring in my face.
