I wld expect you to be sore. Generally speaking, no matter what bike one rides on a long days ride and dealing with windy conditions, a rider will be sore.....unless the rider is in athetically good shape and a solid muscle mass. I wonder if the group you rode with took frequent breaks? I tend to do that on what ever bike I ride. Which is why I am of the opinion, it is NOT the km a rider racks up, it is the JOURNEY.
Some groups I have rode with ride hard, and fast. Over taking every vehicle on the road at break neck speeds. That kind of riding is exhausting. Especially mentally and if it is not the kind of riding you do, and you don't really know the ppl, it will be physically taxing.
Don't give up on the ceebee. There are several of us that have taken our bikes on long day rides and more....no complaints. These riders however have set their own pace and rode within their limits or with ppl they know with a similar riding approach. Consequently they have had a good time.
