Regarding the direction of the tyre tread patterns on the OP's bike. This is the best combination for the following reason. The front and rear tyres have 2 very different jobs to do. The main concern of the rear tyre is to put power down onto the road, this is best done with the "point" of the tread pattern facing towards the rear of the bike, or the direction of traction as the tyre contacts the road. The main concern of the front is to stop the bike, as most of the bikes braking force will be on the front tyre. That is why the point of the tread pattern will be facing forwards at the road contact patch. Anyone who's driven a tractor, will know that the point of the tyres will point rearwards, beacuse when you're pulling something, and you start to lose traction, the tread pattern forces mud to the outside of the tyres, if the tread pattern was the other way round, the tread pattern, would force mud into the centre of the tyre, clogging it and losing traction. The motorcycle tyres are doing the same thing, but the front is doing it under braking force, and the rear under acelleration. ;)

What is the small grill/cage thingy at the rear tyre for? I realised it common to see that for motor bikes in India. Is it the law to have that fixed ?
