Thought installing new grips would be a no-brainer.
Cut the old ones off and slide the new ones on.
Using alcohol or hairspray or air compressor.

BUT did a search to make sure I wasn't missing anything and now I'm really confused.
Results of the search:
- Remove bar ends
- Disconnect throttle cable
- Use glue etc. etc. etc.

Changed grips a dozen time on my bicycles.
But never changed grips on a motorcycle.
Is any of the above really necessary?

Okay, I've got to show my ignorance yet again. I understand the bar ends and glue on the throttle side, but disconnecting the throttle cable? What am I missing? I did look up a quick how to video, was a CBR600, no mention of throttle cable.

Went to the Honda dealer and asked the mechanic if I had to remove the throttle cable.
He looked at me like I was crazy and said "NO!".

Wasn't able to remove the bolts on the stock bar ends.
Loctite says heat will loosen the red Loctite.
Tried everything including soldering iron and pencil torch.
Was going to buy an impact screwdriver which probably would've worked.
But....it takes 3 hands to do that and I only have 2 hands.
Finally went to the Honda dealer and they got them out with an impact driver.

The new look:

The grips are Driven Kraton Gel Grips.
Terrific grips. Sticky and comfortable.

Bar ends are Bikemaster.

Today I tried to pull the stock grips out successfully, but under the rubber grip there is a plastic grip which has big dashes on the surface, it's not a pipe with smooth surface with glue that I see on other bikes. Therefore I could not slide the Sportline grips on -__-"

What can I do now?

First........Is this the grip on the throttle?

If it is you don't want to go messing that up by pulling, yanking and twisting.
An air compressor is the easiest way to remove grips.
Insert under grip....blast of air and it's off.

Or the canned air worked for me.

Or if you don't plan on keeping the old grips use a box cutter.
Just be very careful when cutting the throttle grip.
Don't cut too hard or too deep like you're gutting a deer.

Yes it's the throttle grip. Since it's made of hard plastic, it's difficult to cut it :( Plus I can't remove the bar end of the left side, the screw is too tight. So frustrating

Philips bit in a socket that will hold it. Must use the exact Philips size. Wrap the bar end in leather. Hold the bar end with channel locks and you have everything you need. I have an impact drive but I did it this way.
