Just got bike delivered today, had it brought to my house as I have never driven a motorcycle before. I am familiar with manual transmission from my previous car so that much I at least understand. I just took it for a little cruise down my driveway and quickly realized that I need practice! I have my permit and take a MSF course next weekend so I am looking forward to that but I have a LONG way to go.

Realizing you've barely yet begun is one of the best things to know about motorcycling.

Congrats on the purchase. Never stop learning, never stop practicing.

So did a little more riding around the neighborhood and did a little better. Gonna take it to a nearby parking lot tomorrow. My question is, how long until you became confident on the bike?.....I'm feeling like its gonna be forever!.....lol

Confidence comes with training. Everyone's different.

Just remember, you tend to go where you're looking. So don't look down.

Welcome to the forum pogodo, and congratulations on your new CBR250R!

Confidence will come with time, don't rush it. Just enjoy the miles, and only ride with in your ability. Don't get rushed, if traffic gets behind you and it makes you nervous, you can always find a place to safely pull over, and let them go by. The MSF course should help a lot. When they teach about counter steering, pay close attention.

I will have owned my CBR three weeks tomorrow, and would say I'm starting to feel more comfortable with it. I started out riding mostly on lesser traveled roads around home. It was a good way for me to get a feel for the bike. Then I started adding in short rides down minor highways at low traffic times of the day. Started riding through town most recently to help me get more used to traffic. Being out there with all those cars has been the hardest thing for me to get used to so far. But I'm getting there.

That being said, I do have dirt bike experience, and it has given me a head start with the CBR. Even though the two are quite different.

Please allow me to share some words of wisdom that was given to me by my Dad when I got my first automobile. He told me, "Son, when you think you've got this car all figured out, that's when it's going to get you hurt". I was reminded of those words the other day when I took a corner much faster than I should have. Praise God I didn't lose control, but I was clearly driving beyond my ability. Lesson learned.

Ride safe and keep the rubber side down. Keep a close eye out and drive defensively, expect someone to not see you. Grats on the bike and I wish you many happy miles ahead!!

With safe regards from the mostly frozen north.

Welcome and congratulations on your first bike! Lots of great advice from previous posters so far, and it sounds like your first decisions as a motorcyclist are good ones.

In the beginning, you may feel like you'll never "get it," but with time you'll be very surprised how proficient you'll be.

Just take it slow, and don't rush it. Panic & bikes don't mix, so just take your time and learn at the pace you're most comfortable with.

BTW, MSF is a great start, but it's not like they'll teach you everything. Street riding is totally different-just giving you heads up.

You're clearly very intelligent: 1. You have your permit. 2. You're taking the MSF class. 3. You chose a CBR250R! :D

I'm a new rider, too. Took the MSF class March 10th & 11th, my new bike was delivered March 16th. Four months later I've got 1,800 miles on her and absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE riding! The comfort will come with time, experience and learning to trust yourself and the bike. The laws of physics remain constant and you'll master so much through practice.

One last piece of advice, I highly recommend reading "Proficient Motorcycling v.2" by David Hough. Great resource that really contributed to my head-smart strategy of biking. Good luck, be safe & ride strong!
