Make Your Own High Quality Passenger Handle Belt (Pix)

My lady likes to hang on when she's riding... the bike with me, SO she wanted a better way to than the bear-hug method. Something a little more relaxed. So we stumbled across the "Love Handles" ($65) and "Grip'N'Ride" ($50) belts online. Neither of them have adjustable hand positions and are kind of bulky, so we took matters into our own hands. We went to a local sporting goods store and headed for the rock climbing and water sports departments.

There, we got the following...
- 70" of 2" webbing strap (Needs to be enough for it to fit over your jacket. For reference, I'm a 34" waist in jeans.)
- 4 triglides
- 1 side-release buckle
- 2 carabines

How-to...
1. Insert 2 triglides onto the ends of the webbing strap
2. Put the buckles on each end of the webbing strap, feeding the excess back through the triglides
3. Pinch a loop on each side of the webbing strap and feed through the other 2 triglides
4. Feed the carabines through each loop fed through the triglides

The finished passenger handle belt will look like this...

Now your passenger will have sturdy fully adjustable handles on a belt that's fully adjustable and easily removable for you as well!

That's what mine was based on. It looked like the handles were sewn into stitched loops and we didn't know what would end up being the best placement, so I made her an adjustable one. Yours has comfy grips though. How do you guys like it? My lady's goal was to take pressure off of her lower back and to have a more secure grip when accelerating, so these types of belts seemed like they'd do the job.
Its best to teach your pillion to move with you and not the bike.

Grip your thighs with her knees,
left hand around your gut for accelaration
right hand in the middle of your back for braking.

* All Pillions must comply with the 55kg maximum policy :)
This is a belt I clip around me and she holds onto the handles. It doesn't go on the bike itself. It's a distance riding accessory primarily. Arm position has a lot to do with how a person's back feels after sitting in a static posture for extended periods of time. I have the handlebars and a bigger seat to adjust position on than her, so this should help. My next item on the list is the Corbin pillion seat for her, and the Zero Gravity Corsa screen for me. She's found gripping me with her thighs during braking to be very effective. Guys I know with heavier passengers than you stated all ride cruisers. ;)

yeah your right about the handles on the one i bought......by adjustable ..i meant the size of the belt..handles cant be moved..seems to work well for my chic when shes on the back...she still tries to grab some of my fieldsheer jacket even while holding the handles.. admittedly cuz shes not yet 100% comfortable riding yet...will take a little more time...but the belt helps not only her..its alot better for me too when we ride double..

Cant wait to hear the review on the Corbin Pillion..contemplating getting one too eventually...would love to hear an actual review on it....and my chic grips with her thighs during braking and cornering too..she commented it was good exorcise cuz she was a bit sore there the next day after riding :p
Tried out the passenger highway handle belt on a ride yesterday. Night and day difference on those long stretches at high speeds. Wow, just, wow. For her and me both. She can now sit upright and rest her wrists on her thighs while holding on. The slight forward angle of the seat actually assists her in keeping her back straight. The only complaint she had, and this was to be expected, was after about an hour of seat time, her butt was getting a little sore. Her review; "Awesome. Now if I just had a Corbin seat I'd be set."
