For those who asked. Recently bought the 2013 ninja 650 with ABS to go along with our 2012 CBR with ABS.

The wife and I took the bikes up to Vancouver BC over the weekend.

On the CBR we averaged 73 mpg with mostly highway, and 68 mpg with a mix of city and highway.

On the 650 averaged 56 on the highway, and 50 on the city/highway mix.

Not bad for the new 650, but nothing beats the CBR for mpg.

This is the main reason I'm not interested in the Ninja 300 at all. I can go as fast as I want to on the CBR250R and still maintain 70 MPG. What beats that for a daily use motorcycle? From what I've seen on fuelly Ninja 250s average 20mpg less, and if I did want good mileage I'd have to ride very carefully.

Who wants to do that? :D

I'm averaging around 73 mpg on my CBR, and I'm not babying the throttle either (although I am being cautious to not rev over 7000 rpm during the first 1000 miles, at the advice of the dealer). I do pull a lot of hills where I am, which factors in too.

I've also found that using higher octane fuel yields about another 3 to 5 mpg, from what I've seen so far (89 vs 92 octane).

Honestly this bike is such a great combination of power (more than adequate for me), handling, fuel economy, and design - I'm really very happy with this machine.

And I haven't even experienced the higher end of the tachometer yet... :)

The best I've gotten on my cbr250 is 70 mpg. I've gone as low as 60, I must be pretty rough on the throttle, maybe I ride it like I stole it more than I thought. 50 mpg isn't too bad but I'd probably be stuck at around 45 knowing me if I had a ninja 650.
