Mine must be unusual. It is fast! I've still never hit the redline and it sets me back in the seat and pushes me bodily backwards with each gear change. I am at 60 MPH while the cars behind me at a light are just getting rolling. I think I must have got a special experimental unit. Maybe mine slipped out by mistake. What's gonna happen when I actually pin it? Will I flip over backwards? Love this thing!

In my opinion not much more really happens when you open up the throttle. It's a 250 and doesn't have much extra power hidden in it. Opening up the throttle doesn't double the acceleration for sure, it's marginal at best. Yeah it will speed up a bit faster but that's it.

Can't tell if OP is being serious or joking...

It's a 250...I'm always at WOT and redlining it for fun and sure there's a bit of pep in this engine but can't see how it'll even lift the front without a great deal of help from rider.

I think the OP's sensation comes from the fact that the low band torque is pretty good on this bike, so the first initial Mph feels pretty fast. Combining that along w/ the fact that it's a motorcycle (ie you're sitting on an engine, and you're exposed to the elements), gives the rider a sensation that you're going fast, even when you're not- which is a good thing.

Now, whether it's wheelie inducing, I highly doubt it. I think you have to be a circus member to pull that off on this bike.

If OP is a new rider, then OP is being serious. This is my first bike, and I admit I'm pretty impressed with acceleration. Having ridden 250-800 class ATV's, I was kind of expecting similar performance to maybe a sport 300 ATV. Seems much better to me. When I run through the gears I'm slightly amazed to see that it's already at 55 or 60 in pretty short order. I don't see myself wishing for a 600 anytime soon.

Certainly not comparable to larger displacement bikes, but 0 to 60 mph can be pretty fast on our 250's if your shifting in the power band. As far as setting you back in your seat when shifting is concerned, ease out on the clutch bother ;)

It's pretty easy to dump the clutch on this bike and get by with it. Just one of the many things that makes it a good first bike :)

I agree. This is my first bike, and it feels sharp of the mark to me...I get to the speed limit way before the cars every time. Even when its a mildly worked 6, the dude gets humiliated 0-60kph or 0-80kph by a bloke with a big yellow "L" plate on the rear...usually with their wife/gf riding shotgun .

rrages- if the shift itself (or rather, the release of the clutch) is what's causing you to feel like you're getting pulled backwards at the beginning of each gear, you may want to look a little more closely at your shifting technique. If your revs are taching up high with the clutch in and dropping back low as the clutch is released, you should be thankful you have a 250... because the same behavior on a 600 would spit you out. :)

The sensation of power will wear off once you get more riding experience. Then the bike will start to feel much less powerful. It's decent for what it is but it will feel slow after you've been on bigger, faster bikes. Switching between the 250 and my Yamaha FZ1 (1000cc) is a huge change and takes some adjusting of throttle application. But the sensation of power can even begin to dull on the FZ1 if I don't ride any slower bikes for awhile. The first few passes at the drag strip each year seem fast but after awhile I start wondering if I'm ever going to get to the finish line. Once you get used to it, it doesn't feel so fast. Been kicking around the idea of a new ZX14. That would keep my attention for awhile I'm sure.

I believe this is in response to posts floating around calling the bike slow, or saying it has "nothing left" after 80 kph, or maybe just the general notion that 250's are too small to keep up.

Sure, in comparison to a liter bike, I'm sure it feels underpowered, but on its own, the little ceebee has no problem breaking every posted speed limit and then some.

Yea I agree , I am a new rider and I am impressed with the acceleration and from what the others say, I can only imigine how faster a 600 or larger CC sport bike would feel. I think their right about the low end TQ. this thing pulls fast from 0 to 50 IMO.

Just curious, what's the fastest car you've ever driven?

My last sports bikes had acceleration akin to corvettes, ferraris, lamborghinis and the like.

If you're just used to driving Kias or something, I could see how the CBR250R would feel quick off the line. It's no slouch, don't get me wrong... but anything bigger than a Honda Civic can eat this bike's lunch. :)

"I don't always need a car. But when I do, I ride to my parents house and borrow my mom's Kia."

I wish it wasn't true... :what: But it explains why I enjoy my Ceebee off the line!

Edit: I also drive my girlfriend's not-so-fast Jeep Patriot as well. :D
