I am looking at getting one. They seem to be more expensive than regular gps.

Any thoughts on decent ones at a good price would ne greatly appreciated.

Been a while since I have looked at buying a GPS, but I think the main reasons for the price difference is the fact that motorbike versions are water resistent, and feature a screen that can be used while wearing bike gloves. These features alone seem to be justification enough for the price difference.

Maybe I'll just find a small car gps.

I live in Vegas so the rain isn't a problem.

And...believe it or not, I have the ability to remove my gloves.

for the price of some of these motorcycle gps units i would rather just get a car one, program it before i leave and put it in a tank bag with a gps pocket.

also heard that a GPS for a car will not stand up to the vibes when mounted on a cycle.
dont know how valid that info is tho, my phone seems to handle it ok.

use a car one, motorcycle ones are stupid for the extra money you pay and they look ugly

I have the Garmin NUVI 550. Less than $200, waterproof and OK for motorcycle use. Battery lasts 4 hours but better to install a power supply from the MC battery. Works great!

Been looking at the garmin nuvi 30.

3.5 inch screen so pretty compact. And only around $60.

If you dont need to look at the map, you can always just use your phone.

I listen to music while I ride, so if I am going anywhere new, I can always throw the destination on my phone and itll tell me where to go.

I do not condone what I did but the time I used one I used a car suction cup mount and stuck it to my tac. It stayed. LOL

i wouldn't use a gps i knew a guy that used one on his bike and BAM woke up with herpes the next day

haha, thats funny!!!

Chances are I won't be doing that. I'll figure out a way to mount it.

I have a RAM mount for mine. On my BMW airhead it was almost a requirement if you wanted to know how fast you were really going. I find the CBR's speedometer to be accurate enough that the GPS is redundant.
I will still have one mounted whenever I go for a day or overnight ride, though.

That said, I have always used Garmin handhelds (because I am also a Geocacher).
It used to be a etrex Legend, but after my last hard drive reformat I could not get it to talk to my PC anymore.
So I upgraded to a Oregon 450 - still a pretty small screen but it is in color now.
It does have a touch screen, and that freaked me out until I tried it with my gloves on, and it works just fine.

+1 on Nuvi 550. Works fine for basic stuff. use the back end of a ballpoint pen for a 'stylus' .
