My First Impressions

Finally got my Red/Silver CBR250R wed morning..I managed to put 26 miles on it before I had to be at work at 3pm...I am glad i waited..this bike is awesome.
I am impressed at this bikes ability to get up and go..I am 220lbs and it takes off with ease, It corners great and looks even better. I asked the parts chick at my dealer for a pin spanner wrench so i could adjust the suspension since us americans got screwed on the tool kit. They had a generic-Honda standard spanner wrench for $10..if its a Honda and has a suspension..this wrench will work I was told..and it did. I adjusted the suspension from the factory setting of 2 to 3, only to put it back on 2 an hour later because 3 felt too stiff. Also there service manager pretty much repeated the manual to me regarding the 300 mile break in..,so im riding it normal..thru all the rpms..just not redlining it or opening the throttle wide open...my first service will be $70 to $110 and checking the valves will be another $140 (they didnt seem to realize they were supposed to do that??!!) They said i could make an appointment when I was ready, drop it off in the morn..i would have it back late that same afternoon.I will guess that will end up being next week sometime.

I am amazed at the brightness of the headlight..impressed actually...i enjoyed riding home from work about 2am and could see the road as good if not better than in my eclipse spyder or jeep.
I saw some differences in the manual i had versus the one i downloaded from a thread in here...my manual says minimum gas octane of 86 or higher..since standard low grade is 87 then 87 octane it is from now on..and my manual says maximum weight is 366lbs...the downloaded manual says 384lbs??

As far as everything else,my bike was manufactured in thailand in May....I have no vibrations...no tappet noise..my gears change like butter whether sitting or rolling...no rattling over 5000rpm or any other rpm...no spotty welds....i filled the gas tank just fine without spilling any..it doesnt sound like a lawnmower and was actually surprised at the bass it tries to put out while throttling thru the gears.....so just maybe i just got lucky for once in my life..:D

Oh yeah..i forgot..I have only one complaint...the smell!! after my first ride it smelled what i thought was my break pads getting hot..later after it was cool while letting it warm up i smelled it again..so i assume its just the exhaust/catalytic converter ...hope that smell goes away eventually
Congrats and good lookin on the write up spdlls!.. When the lights are on are they more white or more yellow?.. 87 it is!..
Congrats, yeah the smell will go away, I had the same thing and it concerned me, but now I don't have it anymore. Think its just the break pads and all the excess paint or whatever just burning off. Give it a couple days, maybe less if you are riding a lot.
Congrats!! Post some pics. The bike is definitely worth the wait!! Ride safe and enjoy.
Congrats man!! Have fun! The smell also went away for mine after a few days. Ride safe man!
The smeel should get better - mine smelled like someone had put too much preservative on the exhaust system, but it went away quickly.

Cool ride, congrats!

The headlight is very bright white..the position lights on the sides of the headlight are very yellow..i would imagine they are that way on purpose for a contrasting look relative to the headlight..i dont believe they actually illuminate the roadway much , if any at all anyway.
woot
Which part of TN are you in? I am in Middle. Curious about which dealer you are using as well. I went to the local Power House dealer and he said there was no valve adjustment or check at the 600 mile service but the manual shows different.

I see!.. Thanks for the reply much aprreciated!..

I think some dealers are just using the other CBR model maintenance schedule. For example, the 600rr doesn't call for a valve check until 16,000 miles.

When I talked to my local dealer for the first time, the woman I spoke to have never even heard of the 250r. lol
i am in north eastern TN, Greeneville Honda....and when they told me $70 to $100 for first service..I knew they were omitting the valve check cuz I had seen the exact same thing written about several times in other threads on here..i was very vocal and probably came off as a smarta$$ when i told them it very clearly states in the service manual (that I had a downloaded copy of)...to check the valve clearance at 600 miles.

thats when he told me it would be another $140..when I asked if they had a service manual ..the sales rep told me it came with the bike..(she was probably lying since thats all she did thru the whole process)
Im with you Worm...if they even have the manual they probably didnt even bother to read it but are going by other hondas service schedules they have done in the past instead.. I would really rather not pay the extra $140 but since a handful of people on here are saying they actually needed new shims cuz they were out of tolerance..ill suffer and pay it...

thanks guys. Yeah i stopped by the dealer tonight and brought out the manual. He proceeded to tell me that the first service was 170 to 180 and the valve clearance check would be an additional 154 and if the valves needing adjusted they would charge an additional 192.50 .... now this is a single cylinder bike so i think he should have been saying no more than 100 for the check....according to his own service schedule.. I must say. Cool Springs Honda's service department is already on my crap list. They must not know what they are talking about or they think people are idiots one.. I won't pay that price.
Wow...sounds like sales are slow and they are trying to pay everyones xmas bonus's and end of year raises by revenue from servicing....if the valves did need shims..it should be part of the original valve check price...sounds like they are trying to fleece you over good there...Hope my dealer doesnt do that crap...they are the only powerhouse dealer within a 100 miles. by the way...call corporate Honda customer service and tell them what your dealer said for service...they will probably tell they cant help you..then again maybe ur dealer is breaking some kind of rule charging you that 1-866-784-1870
Stopped at the service department at my dealer in SW Florida; SunSports. I was told, "Oh, it'll be about $150 to check the valves." I then told him that it is a single cylinder engine with four valves and then he told me that it should take about an hour and half and "...$150 should about do it because we have to remove the radiator." The service manager did not check the Honda service manual...'cause he doesn't have one. I have resolved that am going to have to do my own valves and routine maintenance after the purchase of the service manual as soon as it is released by the printer, Helm. I have ZERO confidence in this dealer. Not sure what I will do about shims however...
I have emailed 2 more dealers in my area to see what their response is.

Yeh too bad everytime I call honda for the service manual, they say "sometime at the end of july" yet they are able to look at it in their system. Means they have a soft copy, EMAIL IT TO ME!, ill pay you the dam $$.

Someone also on the .org forums posted part of it, but since its the India version, i think some things are diff.

Thank you honda for the bike, no thank you for the lack of setting up the proper support required for this bike and educating the dealerships.

When you do check the valves, do take some pics and put them up, maybe we can all learn from it because I have heard many cases of people not getting the valves checked because the dealerships dont think it needs to be done. Pathetic.
Costs

Dealers go by their service book for time charged, but it still irks me that they take people for such a ride on issues as the valves. 2 things: 1, I can get access to my valves in under 1/2 hour and 2, you can have them adjusted w/i 1/2 hour as well. Cams don't have to come out to adjust them.
Got the email today that the manuals are printed and ready to ship at helms website.
