Bad Weather prevented me from getting this up sooner...

I just traded in my 1996 Royal Star 1300 for a CBR250R W/ C-ABS.

No, it has nowhere near the get up go of the big 4cyl but, the bike is a blast to ride and doesn't hurt my back so I am very pleased with it.

One thing though, I haven't gotten the owners manual yet so please tell me what I am not supposed to do during the break in period?

Thanks in advance.

Ride it like you stole it, vary the rpms, and don't baby it. Cbr doesn't deal kindly to a pampered lifestyle. You will hear this often. And for the love of god....don't ride at 50kph in 6th gear!! Have fun, this bike is tough and fun ;)

Welcome

Hi, Pete.

I enjoyed riding my 250 today, on city roads and on a secondary highway at speeds up to 70 MPH. This bike is not so fast as my 650, but it does all I need, even on Interstate highways.

I am sure you will find many virtues in switching to a smaller motorcycle. I also have a 125, and it too carries me from coast to coast in Florida, and from one city to another when I choose.

Welcome to the forum. It has many uses.

I suggest you lubricate the chain every 600 miles or 1000 kilometers, and check the tightness of various bolts and nuts once in a while. The clutch cable may do some initial stretching, so adjust it so that the end of the lever has almost 2 cm. of free play. You can lubricate that too. Small tires lose air fast, so check inflation every week or so ... well, every two weeks then.

I was told by my dealer to just keep it under 6000 rpm for the first 600 miles.

Aufitt has a much more extensive break in procedure that he has posted before.

I don't recall the manual saying anything special (It's out and locked under the seat of the bike. . . )

100% agreed ride it like your gonna ride it don't baby the bike!! And the 6th gear thing is funny. I see people do it all the time trying to save gas their in 6th gear going 40MPH lol. I was hitting 8000 and 9000 RPM's at 200 miles my bike is just fine. Recently took it in for the 600 mile first inspection no issues.

The first and last and most important rules of breaking in an engine:

1. Don't lug it.
2. Don't bounce it off the rev limiter.

The stuff in-between the two rules are open to interpretation.

It is a blast to ride, I liked riding the larger bike for relaxation but, it wasn't as fun as this little bike.

The best part about a bike this size, the engine can probably be rebuild for about $300! Basically, riding her sparingly only robs the rider of the fun.

Pmperry...ex of lugging wld be....riding at 50kph in 6th gear. The bike chokes and hesitates. No prob running a 7,000rpm's just don't remain there for long. However, I broke my bike in hard. 90% of my riding is highway therefore the rpm's stayed pretty steady at times. I just had to vary my speed more than normal for the highway.
