Thats awesome you come all this way to ride the roads in this area..i guess we take em for granted when we ride them everyday or their just an hour or two away. I spent 6 hours riding sunday..went thru hot springs NC to lake Junalaska, thru Maggie valley (man I hate they closed Ghost Town in the Sky) then rode up to Clingmans dome, continued up 441 into Gatlinburg..then thru Cosby and Newport on my way home. I wore warm weather safety gear..It was like 40 degrees on the mountaintops :( I thought I was going to get hypothermia

coming into gatlinburg some tourists saw a black bear sitting up a hill and next thing you know..both lanes are blocked and people are stopped in the road and climbing the hillside to try and get a picture of it..lol tourists , i swear :) dont they know bears are hungry when they come out of hybernation? :p

Bears we have lots of (serious! their like squirrels up here) great riding roads, not so much. I've done all the 'named' rides down there. Dragon, The Snake, The Hellbender, Devils Triangle, Cherohala etc etc.. The Cherohala and The Snake are my favs in TN/NC. But theirs better roads with no names (and no pirates and traffic!) They even have a new one on my absolute favourite road thats WAS all but deserted 'Dragons backbone' which is Rte 16 between Marion and Tazwell VA. If you go off that road, no one will EVER find you.

I'm down that way a couple of times a year. Will be at Breaks Inter-State Park in Virginia in May for a camping weekend and enough twisties to make me puke. Then in Sept I'll be in Franklin NC for an east coast FJR meet.

I'm trying so hard to end up retiring to that area, especially around Asheville. Love it down there. I have a line on a job in Greenville SC right now. Got my fingers crossed.
