Idk if this has been discussed.. but when i come to a stop on a red a light and i put the gear on Neutral. When i try to put it on 1st gear. It wont let me on the first try. i pull in the clutch and try to shift it to first and it wont. i have to let go off the clutch and re pull it and then shift to 1st. or another way i have to do it. i have to rev it first and then shift to 1st and if i do it like that then it will shift to 1st on the first try. idk if anyone of you guys have had this problem.

Come up to the lights in first and leave it in gear ready to go, its dangerous to be in neutral.

It's not really a problem per say its more of a technique. Out of curiousity why do you put it in neutral at stop lights? Might be better to leave it in first so you are ready to take off. As to getting it into gear you could just put positive pressure down on the shifter as you ease out the clutch and it will drop into gear for you without all the revving and such.

+1,000.. Did this the other day to adjust the straps on my backpack and had to quickly drop it into first to avoid the douche who came sliding into the intersection directly behind me due to him not paying attention. Of i wouldve been even a half second late i would have a 2011 challenger in my colon right now.

Stoping in every red light in first is not possible. Sometimes I have to put on neutral to sit upright for few seconds, stretch the arms, adjust the helmet, wipe the face etc. etc. etc.

Rocking forward and backward helps in these situations.

Whenever I've had to do the above, I just stop in 1st (so to speak), and then click the bike into neutral. I find if it lets me to do this, it almost always lets me back down into first once I am done stretching, adjusting, etc.

As others have posted it is good to always be in gear 'just in case', so you should only be in neutral for as little time as possible.

rocking back and forth makes you look like Corky from the show "full house"...save yourself the embarressment and dont do it...just let out the clutch a bout a third while clicking down on the shifter..it will clunk into 1st...much easier and people wont even know your doing it

I don't mind rocking the bike in a stop and don't care what others think about what I'm doing. I'm shameless and neither embarrassed. Cause they know when they see me disappear after a few seconds when the lights are green :D.

When you start it you're in neutral and let it run a little then shift to first and ride away...isnt that the same thing? I never have any trouble but I tap the lever down almost in the same motion as pulling the clutch....not pulling on the clutch and going to first a few seconds later.

I will only tend to go to neutral at a light if I'm well boxed in by other cars, enough that I know some jackhole racing up the rear and colliding with others isn't going to be sufficient enough to push other cages into me. Otherwise, if I have something that needs doing that the bike needs my left hand off the controls, I will pull off to a safe stopping place.

Keeping the bike in gear and remaining 100% focused on my surroundings has saved my bacon too many times to keep a tally. There's a reason why MSF and others teach you to stop in the "ready position", and a reason why it's called that.

Always be ready to move.

Likewise, *ALWAYS* give yourself enough room to maneuver out of the way, even if it means sliding up between two stopped cars. If your front tire is on the bumper of the guy in front of you, you're asking to have no way out of a sticky situation.
