Hi guys,

I'm the proud new owner of a 2012 CBR250R that was dropped on both sides before I came into possession of it. The left side is all taken care of by replacing the turn signal and kickstand switch and a little spit and polish. The right side has some pretty unsightly damage to the can and I'd like to replace it with something inexpensive - likely the Leo Vince GP Corsa from Revzilla, in stock at $245.

My question is does this bike have an ECU with a closed loop AFM system that will account for the subtle changes of putting a can on the bike or do I have to put something like the Bazazz on it to compensate. Again, it's not worth it to me to spend another $300 - $400 bucks to eek out another couple of HP and I really don't care to tinker with fuel maps or dyno pulls on a 20-something HP bike. I just want it to run right with the can on it and not lose any low/mid-range.

Also, any other advice on the can replacement? I'm not interested in it make any more noise either but if it does and it's not obnoxious then fine.

What say you wise denizens of the CBR250R forum?

The ecm does run in closed loop and can for the most part adjust for a CBR25R specific Slip-on.

For a full system that replaces the header you would want a piggy back gizzo such as the Bazazz, to name one and have it tuned as it will more often than not run a little outside the stock ecm's adjust-ability.

There are literally dozens & dozens of exhaust threads on the board.
Do a search and you will be rewarded with a whole wealth of reviews and opinions on the various pipes available for our bike.

Oh, I forgot:

Does the stock system have a cat that's eliminated by a full system? As you can see, I know very little about this bike and appreciate the help. I'll go a-searchin'

The cat is inside the stock can.

The cat is completely eliminated from the picture with either a slip-on or complete system unless the aftermarket pipe specificly states it has a cat.

I know of no pipe that comes with a cat but Akrapovic has a pipe that has a cat available as an option.

my leo vince evo II carbon slip-op bought here for $200 used
but good, eu approved db level with both reducers in [eg, mine]
slip-on designed for plug and play replacement of stock unit..
no ecu reset recommended by lv [mine not, but couldnt hurt]..
bike runs well after a few week now, similar to stock with
noticeable slight increase in torque/hp around say 5 - 8krpm..

main reasons for replacement, quality design and manufacture
[italy] tight clean fit, nicely aligned with bikes design, looks
lighter and tidier, saves 13.8lb over stock cannister [lv stat]..
sounds like a motorcycle now rather than a lawnmower..
makes itself known under load, hills, acceleration,
but can be ridden quietly enough with easy throttle..
startup [immediate] not too loud esp once to 1500rpm..
i ease away with light throttle predawn avoiding loading
[+ downhill] without offensive noise/waking neighbours..

you are more aware of engines condition etc, which can be
handy, and has already 'trained my throttle hand' when
blipping/matching gears with revs etc, raising awareness
of my blipping habit being a bit more than necessary..
[perhaps ears listening for more feedback as old habit]

there are more slip-ons around now as owners move to
larger bikes after novice phase/license and experience,
thus regaining cash, plus selling with stock muffler..
so to that extent its a buyers market if you keep an
eye out for a good quality slip-on at used prices..

looks was a factor as well, the stock unit looking heavy,
looking out of place, like an afterthought, which makes
the lv even more attractive as its made for the bike..

the cat is in the stock muffler, one reason for the added
stone in weight above slip-on so if thats a factor for you
be aware that straight swap takes out the cat..
in my opinion this is not a relatively large concern
for a well designed modern small 4stroke single engine..
once warmed up and in legal road riding we dont emit
high levels of particulate matter etc..
also, warming up the cat which is part of warmup
is necessary for normal function thus that factor
now removed along with the stock unit/cat..

Thanks shisoshin. I'm not a fan of making a lot of attention getting noise so my rationale for the new slip-on is to replace the stock one that is bashed up from a low side and to save the weight. It sounds like the bike will run fine and the performance won't really be affected either way by the addition.
