Hey guys, I'm dealing with Powerhouse Honda in Weston, FL here (near Miami), looking to buy a new 2013 CBR250R with ABS.. They quoted me OTD price for 5800 (in any color), 2200 downpayment and the rest financed through Honda for 36 months. I spoke to them about a competing company and they instantly changed that price to 5350 with an 1800 downpayment. It all seems kinda fishy to me that they'd just slice prices that quick, but my guess is that they're aching to get rid of these bikes.

I'm in no rush to purchase, and I'm going to keep talking to other dealers around the area, but I did tell the salesman, Alan, that he is "my guy" at Honda, so as to build a relationship with my salesman. Overall he's a pretty cool dude and very informative.

My question is, is this a good ballpark figure of 5350 OTD for a 2013 with ABS, and if not, what should I aim for when negotiating with the salesmen?

Note: I have yet to take the Motorcycle safety course to get my Florida endorsement (I live in Miami), but I will do this promptly before I buy the bike. heck, Powerhouse Honda even includes the price of the class sometimes when they make their sale, and do home delivery of the bike (not sure if this is standard everywhere).

Edit: I'm also considering waiting for the 500R when it hits the shelves here, as I haven't seen it in any of the bike dealers in my area.... I'm responsible though so I'm thinking stick to the 250.

I could have had a new 250r OTD for just over $5000 here in Canada. I believe the MSRP is higher on the 250r here in Canada as well.

Well San Diego is kinda far, but yeah I'm willing to shop around! I am sure I could negotiate the price on the bike, and as of right now 5300 is a bit over my budget, but I don't mind financing... But if shopping around will save me 800 bucks, I'm willing to wait to find the right dealer around me.

I can't help you with the price on a new 2013 with ABS, but I had an OTD price quote from a dealer in north Alabama for a new ruby red 2012 with ABS for $4650. I bought a new 2012 black non ABS CBR250R last week for $4200 OTD.

Good luck in your search for the right motorcycle at the right price.

Contact Southern Honda Powersports in Chattanooga, Tn. They are literally the largest volume Honda motorcycle dealer on the planet. Easy to find on line...best selection and by far the lowest prices...might be worth the trip...and no, I don't work there...it's just where I bought my 250. And my coworker bought his Goldwing...and he shopped nationally...

Thank you guys for your responses. My followup question is:

Should i expect the 2013 model to run pricier than the 2012, even though they are both new bikes and pretty much the same, because it is the latest model? Also, how would shopping nationally help me? I looked at a company online that delivers bikes and its something like $600 + fuel. I am not really willing to travel out of state.

If you go to cycletrader.com (type in cbr250r - search) you will find many, many new, and in the general vicinity of Florida, at what seems like good prices. However, be sure the price is OTD when you call and talk to them. Some dealers have a $2999 price listed with a hidden $1200 in "fees". What kind of deal is that?
Good luck.

The 12's here were 500 or so cheaper. I just didnt like the color scheme. They want them gone to make room for the 13's.
How far out from where you are did you shop? I wasnt implying out of state. Set a radius and call around.
If you cant find a new one for the right price, I would suggest just be patient and snag a used one. The price might seem close to new, but you definitely wouldnt pay destination (390) or freight (475).

Yeah, this always happens. When i went looking at 600's the other day the 2012 models of the gixxer were $12,500 but the 2013's are about $15,500 - same bike, different year model. At the end of every year dealerships usually discount their current year models to move the stock out and make way for their next year models.

Same with virtually any bike so if you can snap up a good deal on a 2012 providing you like the colours i'd go for it :)

I have shopped 50 miles out. So far Gables Motorsports and Honda Powerhouse are the only ones that serve Hondas around here, so I am sort of stuck. On top of that, Gables doesn't seem to want to gain a new client, as they are unwilling to provide me with an OTD price to begin the negotiations. Right now my lowest price is a 2013 ABS for $5350 OTD. Looking elsewhere to see if I can get a competitor low price, then go back to Honda and tell them to lower it.

Without having a competitor's lower price on a bike, how should I go about negotiating for a lower price on the bike? Honda Powerhouse is really interested in my business, and it looks like not a lot of people are buying bikes around here... Especially the 250s since there's a whole bunch of em at the lot.

I want to legitimately join the community with a new CBR promptly!!

I just bought a brand new 2013 CBR250R (non-ABS) and since i did't have much credit history I had to put a bit more down ($1,200) to get the bike financed but all in all I ended up paying $4,712.25 OTD for mine after all the fees and stuff. I got mine at Geoff Bodine's Honda of Melbourne you should try giving them a call.

Honda of Chattanooga has a 2012 Black with a Yoshi already installed for only 3700. The bike has zero miles on it and I regret buying a 2013 when I could have held out for the 2012's to drop. The bike is unchanged mechanically from 2012 to 2013 aside from silver to black wheels and the new Red vs the Ruby Red (maroon) and the new Tri color scheme. Honda of Chattanooga in TN, Motorcycles ATVs Scooters Lowest and Best Wholesale SALE Prices Generators Dealer Used Motorcycles PowerSports Southern TN This is assuming you're willing to expand your shopping territory to save a couple of G's.

It's far man. How would I get the bike here? What are the logistics behind delivering the machine? Also, I'm specifically looking for an ABS one. I'm guessing Yoshi is an aftermarket part? I haven't done any research into modding the CBR.

Thanks for the tip! I'm hoping to downpay 2-3k so I can get better financing terms. They are hitting me with 17% apr (my credit score is 720 btw) and they keep insisting that i make monthly payments of $126 for 36 months. My plan is to negotiate the price to 5k, and then I'll only finance 2 or 2.5k.

Actually, the ad reads: "Our price is $3,778 plus the price of the Yoshimura TRC Carbon Fiber Slip on Exhaust."
Is the the same bike?
Even adding the cost of the Yoshi slip-on this is a great deal on a new 2012. Man, do they have some fantastic prices on new Hondas.

If your FICO score is 720 there's no way in hell that you should be paying anywhere near 17 percent interest.

700 And Up

The National Foundation for Credit Counseling Service says that FICO scores of 700 and up are considered to be very good. A score above 800 would be excellent. If you have a score in this range, it means you are making your payments on time and have a good mix of account types and reasonable credit limits for your financial situation. You should be able to qualify for loans and credit cards and get preferred rates.

650 to 699

CreditNet says that a FICO credit score between 650 and 699 is considered fair, especially when you get toward the bottom of that range. You should be able to get credit cards and loans, but you mostly likely won't be in the preferred category.
600 to 649

According to CreditNet, if your FICO credit score is between 600 and 649, it is considered to be a bad score. You will have trouble getting credit cards or loans and will have to shop around to find a lender who will take a chance on you. You will most likely be considered a sub-prime borrower and will have to pay a higher interest rate.
599 and Below

A FICO credit score of 599 or below is very bad. It will have a negative impact on your ability to get credit. You may not be able to get a loan without a co-signer, and you may be limited to secured credit cards that require you to put down a deposit.

I got the 2013 red ABS from Southern Powersports in Chattanooga a couple weeks back. I live in the Florida panhandle and visit atlanta a lot so it wasn't far to go up to the dealer. I strapped the bike down in the bed of the truck and headed back down. $4597 from them without me trying to negotiate anymore but I still have to pay Florida fees, so around 4.9k$ otd. They did have gear priced like I see on the Internet and took care of the first 150$ themselves. That said, I wouldn't have done all that to save just a few hundred dollars.

Hmmm I put down $1,200 and my apr is 18% with $125 a month for 36 months

My bet would be they are trying to bilk even more money out of you. That high of an apr with good credit means the house (bike dealer) is definitely getting a cut. In short, they are trying to take you to the cleaners.

2012 Honda Cbr250r, Fort Pierce FL - 106715393 - Cycletrader.com

Fort Pierce FL. $3899
Roughly 87 miles away. Call & negotiate before heading down.
Get a friend with a truck to go with you.
have a tow hitch? Rent a bike trailer.
Budget truck rentals have unlimited miles right? The bike is pretty light. Some good straps would hold it down. (Just research doing it right).

Just found another with the old "call for price".
http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2013-Honda-CBR250R-ABS-106342537
74 miles away.

When you are talking to them, just be frank and ask for their otd price. Tell them you have xxx to put down and want to finance the rest, & you have a fico of 720.
When they give you their otd, counter with your offer. You dont have to do it right away, call em the next day, or a few hours later. (Or do it right then if you are feeling spunky) Yeah they are in it to make a profit, but there is always room to negotiate. A dealer that wont deal shouldnt be trusted. Unless their prices are awesome to begin with. (I miss Denver...sigh)
