Oil leaking at 400 miles!!!

If it is indeed coming from the breather hose I will second what everyone has said about it being cool. It's better to drip it out the breather than have the engine suck it in.

On my bike the bottom of the tube is capped. It is also see through so when I see it getting full I can uncap it and drain it into a suitable container. I didn't even realize this bike had a drain tube until last night. I was quite delighted to discover it. This is the first bike I've had in a long time that I don't have to add a catch can.

Cars recirculate the oil vapor from the crankcase vents into the intake and burn it. Doesn't hurt it if it burns it.

Bit of a misleading thread title for a dropped bike.

mine has zero miles, and it leaks from the shift shaft seal.

You're right, it doesn't hurt it.
But it displaces the nice cool air/fuel mix so you lose power.
And gets the inside of the airbox all icky

Only if your engine has significant blow by. Which would indicate you need new piston rings.

For what it's worth, my CBR250R developed an oil leak right after its breakin maintenance. I brought it in today and it dripped a couple of drops in just a minute. The techs focused on the seal around the oil filter, where a good amount was coming from, but there also seems to be a leak around where the clutch cable (?) goes into the bottom of the engine, just rearward of the oil fill hole/cap. It's a small trickle but definitely is there.

When I asked them about that one, they didn't seem to think it could possibly really be coming from there. If others have seen it too, and mine continues, I'll have to call it to their attention again. There could be some sort of defective seal there.

Mine is leaking oil via the water pump tell tale hole at 400mi. The dealer has been waiting over a month now for one part from Honda to do the seal replacement job...

I'm getting ready to lemon law the bike at this point.

My bike has a little leak under the clutch case(there is a small hole just under the water pump)!The coolant always leak from there when my bike starting cold!!Does anyone have problem like this??Thanks everyone!!(I'm from Taiwan,my english is not very well)

that small hole in the bottom of the water pump is there for a reason..it is supposed to leak coolant if there is a water pump malfunction so it gives you a visual and lets you know there is a problem..(usually indicates a water pump needs replacement) I would take it to your dealer and tell them about it...

I would greet any comments from them like "its supposed to do that on start up" with skepticism...mine certainly doesnt leak a drop of anything at start up or any other time

thank you for your answer!but it's strange !!the small hole will not drop any thing when i riding,it's just a little wet(leak not over 5c.c) after i prak my bike almost 24hrs!i think the leak is because after i park the bike,the coolant is still heating by cylinder and cylinder head,and the cooling system pressure will bigger then riddering,so the coolant leak from water seal(the seal is not 100%sealling )~does anyone have another thinking~

More than just breather hoses???

Hey all im new, but im having this same issue. bike is totally fine.. then there will be a big puddle of oil. i'll look through the sight glass and the oil level is still fine. then a few weeks will go by and then a another big puddle.

Background info... I drove it home friday after work and I admit I was slighty abusive (leaning and high rpms 7k-9k). Sat all day saturday and when I when to ride sunday at like 5. There was a puddle of oil under the bike. I have never crashed... I dropped it on right side last week... but nothing major jus a few scuffs. Looks like it is coming from one of the tubes at the bottom...

I have same issue cbr250r but mine way more. What kind of coolant can i put in the reservoir ? I think its over heating

I had two little drips hanging off that cluster of hoses. like greenish almost the color of anti freeze.. there wasnt enough to liquid to drip but there were traces..(Ill send in the samples to the C.S.I. lab for the results ;-> )

Probably best to use a Honda coolant if you need a significant amount and you don't want to flush it. To just top it off, a small amount of distilled water will do. Almost any regular coolant is compatible with cycle cooling systems at this point - but you could confirm.

If the overflow tank is consistently low, and it is overheating, you should check into the cause. Take the cap off the radiator (engine cold) and see if the coolant is at the top - it should be.

Fill the radiator first, then set the level in the bottle to the middle.
