Try some of the sponsored vendor's here on this site, or surf the web. I will buy locally, if the dealer has what I want on hand... if he has to order it, then no... I can do that myself online, get it just as fast, and have it delivered to my door. Not to mention you'll likely find the best deals, including stuff like riding gear on "closeout sales", online.

If the local guys have it in stock or can get it to me as fast as an onliner, while providing me a price + tax that is comparable or "close enough" to what I'd pay +s/h online, I'll go local every time.

But I won't spend 20%+tax over what it'd take to get it to me in a week from an online shop.

Sorry to say, driven by the almighty dollar.

Try the site sponsors... they're listed on the forum page.

Almost exclusively local. That's influenced by the fact that I get a discount on parts and accessories since I bought my bike there.

Should also add that I thought my dealer selection was bad, too, until I realized they could get me just about anything I needed at, or close, to Internet prices.

mike, where do you shop online?
The online dealers I've bought from are OEMCYCLE.COM, CYCLEPARTSNATION.COM, EXTREMESUPPLY.COM (Good prices on riding gear, especially helmets), POWERSPORTSPLUS.COM.

It pays to check out shipping & handling charges, some places offer free S&H above a certain dollar amount.

I try to support my local independent operation when prices are close. Their tire prices are competitive and they install for $20/wheel if you bring them the wheel(s). Considering the fun I had trying to remove and re-install a Dunlop 606 rear tire recently, I'm glad to be lazy. Old age has a few privileges. :D

This. Support your local community. I always start there because I can go in for proper fitment and talk to the employees. Last time I jumped on a hell of a deal for a certain piece of gear, the **** thing didn't fit me well, and it was a waste. And you never know. You may get a hell of a deal with your b&m. I went to Bert's of all places, and they sold me a nice pair of Sidis for half of what newenough was selling them. And I was only looking for a race suit.

I've bought from both motorcycle-superstore and revzilla. Both offer free shipping for orders over $39.99. Revzilla offers a rewards program for return shoppers and hosts video reviews for almost all of the gear they stock. They also have a wider range of gear than the superstore. When I go shopping, I look at revzilla first. They usually have the best price if they carry the item.

EDIT: My local store marks up everything (including bikes!) about 10% because they're the only dealer in a small town. But last time I was in there, the cashier said they will price match any prices advertised online! Good to know!

I go to Rezzilla as well. Free return if you are not happy. I lived in Los Angeles and I get most of the Rezilla stuff next business day via UPS Ground. Source is from Las Vegas most of the time. Free shipping over $40 and tax free.

Bert Mega is another place I went to if I need something fitted. Got my jackets, helmet, etc. there. Great people working there. Got my bike there so I just hit up my sales person everytime I needed a discount.

I ended up getting my helmet, jacket, and gloves from the dealer because they gave me 25-30% off and they had the type of stuff I was looking for. I've used cyclegear too but the service there was annoying and I only go back when I absolutely have to.

The problem with online is that I like to be able to see/hold/try on what I'm buying. I also like being able to return something to a brick and mortar location. If I can buy local I generally try to, unless I have already seen the item in person and am shopping around online for a better price.

For items that require a proper fit, I have purchased in person... for parts/mods, I'd go online through the forum sponsors unless they don't have what I'm after.
