To all newbies, before you ask a question, or preferably, before you even ride your bike, read the user manual all the way through. This will prevent you from asking stupid questions, and could save you from damaging your bike, and your health, through ignorance. Have a nice day. ;)

Good tip but....

My manual tells you to change gears by kph and not by the revs and I am not sure that's the best advice .

Meh, it's not like the owner's manual is necessarily the bible when it comes to these cars. The revs is one thing, I also found the helmet lock how to pretty helpful even though it is in the owner's manual as well.

In my opinion there are no stupid questions. If someone has a question they should feel free to ask, whether it's in the manual or not. After all the most valuable part of a forum in my opinion is the knowledge sharing. The next guy that comes around can just search and we can point him to the right thread. Win win in my opinion.

This website could really use a FAQ, some more stickies, and a section devoted entirely to new riders. It would really cut down on the stupid questions and it would make it easier for people to find the info that they need.

Otherwise, this is a great site and it does have a lot of great threads that helped me pick my bike.

Bingo. I understand we have a lot of new riders here and that's great. To help the new riders with their questions and stop the redundancy which is getting ridiculous........ how many changing gear threads do we need?........ I concur with the above post.

I'm not bashing new riders, they're in the majority here and there's more joining every day, lets make it easier for them to learn about their new rides and become better/safer riders.

I was looking at that manual and it says to use octate 91 or higher... that seems contrary to what I've read on the forums... so which is it? 87 or 91?
The manual you linked to is international and uses Reasearch Octane Number RON, while in the US we use AKI or Anti-Knock Index. 91 RON is roughly equal to 86 AKI (US octane). That being said, I use Shell VPower which is 93 here...

I totally agree that everyone should read the manual.
But not because I'm tired of all the questions being asked over & over. I really don't mind.. but because I think owners should read it because it's wise, smart & sensible to read the thing and familiarize yourself with the bike you just bought.

Things like changing oil, tire pressure, how to set the clock, where certain switches are...the list goes on and on.
It's all in the book and it's good to know all that stuff BEFORE you need to really know that stuff :)

I'm one of the newbies, but I've been using forums for years to research things and utilize the knowledge of people with far greater experience than myself.

A couple years ago I got a German Shepherd for the first time. I must have spent a good month or two on a GSD forum before making the buy. They have a whole section of forums dedicated to first-time-buyers, with forums on training, feeding, choosing.... all that good stuff.

I would love to see something like that on here. Obviously this bike is great for beginners, so it would be very helpful to have threads flagged, stickied, and set aside for people that want to learn about the 250R.

We cant even put up DIY threads on oil changing (thats all in the manual anyway) without them going off topic into debates as to whether Honda knows what oil their bikes are designed for lol, so I doubt Sticky's will work.

While I understand where you're coming from, there should be enough people who utilize them and appreciate their existence. As it stands, I have to use the search function and then sift through a number of threads to hopefully find what I'm looking for.

The biggest problem is that a lot of newbies tend to ignore stickies and ask the questions anyway. There's really no way around that, but hopefully you can direct them to the thread and they will find what they're looking for.

Regardless, I think a section devoted entirely to new riders would go a long way in heading off some of the repeat questions that you have been seeing.

Maybe the motorcycle salespersons that are not doing their jobs properly in some countries, they should be explaining the basics at point of sale, and showing the owner the manual.

That's fine, for people that buy the bike. A newbie section would help prospective buyers from asking the same 4 questions ad nauseum.

Maybe I'm reading the tone of your posts wrong Aufitt, but I cannot for the life of me come up with a good reason why you would be as categorically opposed to this idea as you're coming across.
