I live in Michigan, so riding year round is not ideal, but does anyone have tips for riding in colder weather and is riding on ice/snow possible on a motorcycle with the right tires and equipment? I commute 2 miles to school and would like to ride a motorcycle to class if possible in the winter.

Newbie from Michigan here. Just returned from an invigorating bike ride. Temp in 30's, sunny! Wore long undergarments, Balaclava, gloves and was very comfortable.

With temps in 40's & 50's this weekend, I want to get a lot of riding in.

With that said, I would not recommend riding in MI in wintertime unless the roads are perfectly clear! We have black ice & a lot of pit hole formation on the roads in the wintertime. I would recommend not doing it! Don't risk your bones & fairings by going out!

Wait until weather is like today when we get a spring thaw in wintertime!

I had to do it in Evanston, IL, one winter but do not recommend it.

You will fall, probably several times. The 250R plastics will be brittle in the cold and stuff may break that wouldn't in warmer temps with the same impact.

If you do do it, Sorels, insulated one-piece coveralls, and ski gloves should get you a couple miles down the road. I was a grad student, so I could stash shoes and hang the coveralls in my office.
