Hello all, my GF has the bright idea of taking the kids out riding with us. the boy can't quite reach around completely, and I recall seeing some contraption at the bike shop that had handles, and it was like a kidney belt and people could grab the handles to stick to you. Anyone know what that thing was called? I am looking for it on ebay or amazon, but i'm using bad description lookups or something, thanks!

I don't like depending on their strength and attention span to keep them on the bike. When I was in preschool in the '70s my uncle picked me up from daycare using an oversized leather belt around both of us. I sat in front across the tank and held the inside of the bars. In our case you'd have to see if you're comfortable with the triple tree being a handle. You might also want to get a tank slapper to protect your paint. Some of my best memories were on a rainy day holding on to his 500cc Yamaha. He bought one just like it a few years back and had it brought back into spec. So sweet looking!

4 and 6 yr old, I know it's nuts right? The 6yr old girl is actually a better passenger than most adults I know, but the 4 yr old boy is too interested in the sights. Her jean Belt loops aren't in a nominal position either, the girl has perfect reach to get to my pockets on my leather jacket so its perfect.

I rode pillion for several years before getting my own ride, and many more years after that before I was old enough to ride on the road solo.

I'd hold on to Pop's belt or belt loops.

Check your local laws- many states have minimum legal passenger ages now. In texas the minimum age is 5, though back in the 70's I was free to ride pillion at 3, and enjoyed the bloody hell out of it. :)

That's good then. I could not when I started, but I was too young to realize I should. Pops wouldn't have taken me if I couldn't hold on and if there wasn't a helmet that fit me.

I only see 7 But there is another version floating around the internet where someone has Photoshopped a baby in the bucket. :)

I want to take my son as a passenger and he is 13. The two problems are that I'm not comfortable myself on the bike yet, and his attention span is so short I'm afraid he would try to do something stupid while on the bike.

But I'm looking forward to the day when he can ride with me.

It's hard to tell... but the black and white striped shirt at the front doesn't belong to the head you mostly see up front. That kid is wearing a grey shirt...and if you look close enough, you can just barely see the cheek of the lil guy in the black/white shirt up front.

Black/white strips, grey, head we don't see a shirt, black shirt, brown coat, brown shirt, red shirt, kid in a backpack. 8

Safe? No! Fun? Hell yeah! Check your local laws. Some states require the passenger pegs be within reach of the passenger. Others just require that they be installed. In the olden days it was not uncommon to see small kids on the gas tank. I don't think that is legal anywhere. I used a device made in Canada that strapped the kid to me like a backpack. Can't remember the name but they showed it in use on a snowmobile and on horseback. Don't do it if you don't want your kid to ride when she grows up! The CBR belongs to my daughter. She lets me ride it sometimes.

You are absolutely right...somehow I missed the one holding the bucket.

I just bumped this from the grave to report I took my son for his first ride, and my first ride with a passenger. He's 14 now and I think I was more nervous than him. Great tips on this forum and we had a great ride. And now he wants his own motorcycle. He's going to have to wait a couple more years for a street bike though. I told him by then he can have the CBR250 and I'll get something bigger. But he's already got his sights on a CBR1000RR
