I can't picture you doing it without a custom made bracket which would hold the board to one side of and running parallel to your bike.

I suppose an alternative would be to strap it to your back but I wouldn't want to do it that way.

why cant you just rest it across the back of the seat? how long is it? 3-4 feet? you'd still be narrower then a car. you could bungee it to one rear peg hooks, loop over the board on one side, under the fender, over the board on the other side and then hook to the other peg hook. hell, I once strapped a chair out of a dumpster to the back of my bike!

I admire your 'I can carry anything on a bike spirit,' it's a lovely tradition which has generated many hysterical photos. I hope to contribute some myself one day. However, this is one I would hesitate to try. I'm an aerospace engineer and a pilot, with some words of caution: if your board is 3-4 feet, you will get an aero effect at speed, and it could apply a force to your bike which might not be desirable. Keep it slow, you might get away with it. But here are some scenarios to keep in mind:

1) Strapping it to the back seat, flat, would put it at an angle with the front of the board slightly down. This will tend to push down on your rear wheel, when the air is coming straight at the board. Disturbances caused by wind gusts or passing through the turbulence created by cars could cause uneven pressure (technically changes in angle of attack, with different angles at different parts of the board) and your board now can act to push down unevenly , tilting/rolling your bike. It is possible it would even try to lift the bike on one side or another, depending on the airflow. Imagine how it would feel to have a passenger leaning unpredictably, and that is what it could feel like.

2)Strapping it parallel to the frame in a custom bracket. Consider the same air disturbances I mentioned above. The board would now apply a left/right pushing force on the side of your bike. If the center of the board is near the center of gravity of your bike, it is likely to apply a force evenly to the front and rear wheels. If it is towards the rear of your bike, it can push on your rear wheel more, encouraging fishtailing.

The degree of danger is therefore dependent on bike speed, wind speed, traffic conditions, board shape, bike weight, tire conditions, road conditions, etc. Remember: our bikes are relatively light, they can be pushed around. I would tread very carefully with this, or not tread at all. Good luck, my friend, sorry to sound paranoid, but this can happen and I wanted you to know.

With all due respect, the engineer in you over-thinking it! This coming from a guy who's dad was an engineer for CAT.

Throw caution to the wind! Just strap her down and (literally) let her fly!!!

Turn it sideways, turn it vertical and you got yourself a NASCAR spoiler! Just think of al of the downforce you'll have.

shortly after posting this i decided to just go for it and see if i could figure something out
(i really wanted to skim)
i ended up just sitting on the tailpad with the nose facing toward the back of the bike and attached a bungie cord to the passanger handles it worked out fine. its only like a 2 mile ride at low speeds from my house to the beach

Glad to hear it worked out for you, and that it's an easy ride to get there. Take a picture of this for the rest of us! :)

Back in my early 20's I had a Kawi EX 500. One day I got stuck using it as a work truck. I had strapped four 10' sections of 3" drain pipe, and a whole lot of fittings to it. Then I strapped a pick & shovel to myself.

The pipe made me look like a knight in a jousting competition. I got some really crazy looks from people. It was great fun :D

Just two weeks ago I got stuck carrying a couple road signs and a few traffic cones on the back of the wee bee. My crew forgot them at the end of a job so I had to figure out a way to keep everything on the bike for the 12 mile ride back to the yard.

Using your Bike for Transport.

I want to figure out a way to get my skimboard to the beach with me, has anyone done this?
Greetings PriceJr,

I've used my motorcycles for transporting many things. The last Item was a 12' X 12' Canopy, with a weight of 85 lbs. The Container measured 12" X 12" X 60". Including the Windshield, the Rider in an upright position at 160 lbs, gives a Sail Area of over 6 Square Feet.

The trip from where I purchased the Canopy to my Home. Included 13 miles South on I-75, @ 75 mph. The Winds that day was from the SW at 15 to 25, with Gusts of 35 mph. Then 17 miles @ 60 mph on secondary highways.

The Rebel experenced no Adverse Handling Symptoms during the Trip.

I see that you have had one successful Trip already. If I had to transport a skimboard, I would turn it sideway, bungee it down and go.

An ole Rider's Saying, There ain't no such thing as Can't.

Rock on dude! I hope I didn't offend you by making think I was discounting your engineering knowledge. I just spent an entire childhood rolling my eyes at a guy who over-compensated and overbuilt A LOT of stuff. You should've seen the swimming pool deck he built! we could've nuked it and it would have still been standing. We always used to joke that engineering school must have been just training in all possible worst case scenarios of everything.

Have fun at the beach. I think it's supposed to snow here tomorrow.
Sigh...

I was looking at the exact same bag when i originally ran into this issue but with shipping it 100$ and if u look at it the bag goes a lot lower than where the straps end i dont know that there would be enough clearance to sit. But i deffiantly see what your saying i had the same thought if i can find one in a local shop ill ask them if i can take it outside and sit on my bike with it before buying

Maybe you could get the straps resewn so it sits on your back horizontally instead of vertically?

Other than looking like a giant butterfly with 2 wheels, I dont think the wind resistance it would add would get too crazy if youre just taking short trips to the water

Every time I see the title of this post, I can't help but think of Snakes on a Plane. Lol.
