17056 Views 108 Replies 35 Participants Last post by  cbrblack
Hi guys,

Hopefully around May, everyone has gotten their bikes! I was thinking of starting a meet. A SoCal Honda CBR 250R Meet! Who is interested? Where should we meet? Where should we ride after? Where should we eat after?

There are tons of Bike Meets, Groups out there, why not start one just for 250s? :p

Thoughts?

I know some of you are not in Southern California, so ride your bike over here! ;)

Target... I been there, would they have dot4. Just be mindful, after that I'll get hungry. :)
Haha - ok I've seen hard votes for the Rock Store as well as Angeles Crest and I assume Newcombs Ranch for food.

Any strong feelings here from anyone else riding? I will roll anywhere so either works for me-also chime in anyone if you have strong preferences elsewhere (Azusa, etc.)

I will say Angeles has some opportunity for both advanced riders as well as those new to the scene to get some twisties in at their own pace. IMO of course.

I have not spent any time on Mulholland so am "opinion less" on Rock Store. :)
I figured it was my schedule that decided the date, so I'm letting the rest of you decide on the location. I haven't done any of these roads, so I really have no say.

I would only preference Azusa because it's closer to my house. :p
We can throw a million dates up-sometimes easier just to pick one so people can "aim" for it. LOL Looks like it will work for some so all good. Not the last group thing hopefully so the rest of year for more. (TG for Cali weather.)
:)
Just to throw it in, the 21st, Sunday, works better for me. Any vote for Sunday?
I'm in for sure! I have been blocking off the 20th.
If you like technical turns then option number 3 is good. Azusa canyon to Glendora Mountain Road. Taking East Fork from Azusa to GMR is the most fun road EVER. It feels like the track. If you like fast sweeping turns then azusa canyon or ACH is good.

So my votes would go as follows.

Choice 1: Azusa Canyon to Glendora Mountain Road.
Choice 2: Azusa Canyon
Choice 3: Angeles Crest Highway

Ok that's 2 folks with definite interest in Azusa Canyon to Glendora Mr. Rd.

Again-I am just a "bumper" LOL. Never run that one.

Takers for Azusa?(place to meet after for lunch?)

20th working or more free the 21st? Thoughts? Opinions?

Majority responses will swing the location suggestion and date.
PM for Saturday the 20th received.
Hi everyone :D
I may join up with you on this ride. My 250 is in limbo in shop waiting for an engine transplant from a catastrophic mechanical failure on the track. So I would be on a different bike for this ride. But being the owner of a CBR250R would still qualify me to participate

I would be open to riding any of the three above mentioned routes. Also I want to bring up a big FYI for everyone, if Glendora Mountain Road is included in the ride route. The lower half of this road is plastered with tar snakes. They become very slick in the hot sun. Your traction will be reduced significantly and your tires could slide. So please watch your speed and lean angle on the lower portion of GMR to avoid any "OH ********************" moments. Be smooth and gradual with your control inputs (gas, brake, steering) over the tar snakes and you should be good. :)
Welcome aboard for the 20th "CBR250R ABS"
And forgive me if I'm eyeballing your Triumph if that's what you're bringing instead. I have a Street myself and have been checking out a Daytona as well. :)
If we take Azusa to GMR we actually are above the tar snakes. Once we reach GMR we have a choice of going east towards mt baldy (technically called Glendora Ridge Road, zero tar snakes) or going west towards Glendora (tars snakes on the bottom half). Frequently people ride one way then retrace their way back and go the other way. I have never had a "oh ****" moment with the tar snakes but I am cautious.
There is a small mom and pop resturaunt in Azusa off east fork or real restraints in Glendora maybe 5 min from the entrance/exit to GMR. There are also two resteraunts in mt baldy.

Sounds cool to me. Pick a good parking lot/gas station/starting point to meet at and I say we throw up a time. At a week out let's just do this and sees who is game for this ride.

Opinion-keep it on this thread or repost with Date-Location-Time as New Post?
There's a mobile station off the 210 and Azusa exit. It is a common bikes going to Azusa meeting place.
Address is 145 N Azusa Ave
Azusa, 91702

Time is flexible for me. I prefer mornings but I know not everyone can wake up before 9.

Ok folks still free for the above for the 20th at what? 9am, 10am???

9 AM works for me as a meeting time.
And KSU (kick stands up) = departing time at 9:30 AM
The earlier the better as it gets really hot after 11 AM in Azusa and Glendora. JDValentine would be my choice of a ride leader because she knows this route extremely well. Also because this ride will include riders with diverse skill levels from beginner through advanced, I want to stress the point that everyone should ride at a pace that they are comfortable with. The group will stop and reconvene at numerous points along the route allowing slower riders to go at their own pace. No one will be left behind. We should have a riders meeting to discuss the route and what to expect at about 9:15 AM. Please bring water with you (minimum 1.5 liter bottle) as you will use it during the regrouping stops. Also I would encourage you to also bring a snack such as granola, nuts, fruit, beef jerky or a power bar. We will be doing a good amount of distance on twisty switchback mountain roads before lunch. Should be about 120-150 miles covered.

This sounds amazing. 9AM works for me.

Thanks for the tips for the water and snacks.

I'll take it we'll go through a few "hang signals/gestures" as well in order to communicate during rides too?

...This will be my first group ride. So, uh, bear with me!
I got some hand signals for ya ...Just kidding. Yeah we can go over that at the quick preride meeting. But do take the advice above and come prepared with water and snacks.
Yay, can't wait for Saturday. 250 Power :p
So, just to confirm is it going to be Sat, the 20th, @9am at the Azusa Mobile station?
