Most after market pipes will say "closed course only". This is because they haven't been certified by the EPA (in the States) so are technically 'illegal' for street use.
By saying they are "race use only" etc.. the pipe makers cover their butts legal wise.
I'm waiting for an after market pipe that drops the weight (stock can is HEAVY) but doesn't sound much louder (if at all) than the stock pipe. After 12 years of loud bikes, I am so loving having a quiet bike again. I don't feel guilty anymore when I start up the bike at 6:00am.
