I went out wednesday to bike night at quaker steak and lube here in town. It was a gorgeous day and they had a HUGE turnout of around 300+ bikes! As I walked around admiring all the other bikes I noticed that 90% of the rockets had chicken strips so huge that Col. Sanders would have been sporting wood! And on top of it their was a large number of them that had rusted chains! How in the world do people have these bikes and not only do they ride them like p***ies but they also neglect them horribly??:mad:

On a plus note I got to drool over a gorgeous and mint condition honda RC51!! MMmmmmm... I'd LOVE to own one of those bikes one day. Not sure what it is about them that drives me nuts but I love them. Maybe the big 1000cc thumper V-twin or thier awesome racing history??

The RC51 makes incredible noise!

If you ride responsibly on the street you should have chicken strips. I guess if you have a 1000cc sportbike and ride responsibly, you might as well man up and ride a CBR250!!!!

That's funny because I ride responsibly and have maybe a 1/4" of chicken strips on my rear tire. On the roads in my area you can really lay a bike over in the turns and not break the speed limit of that road. Huge chicken strips on a big bike tend to actually show that the rider is more likely to be the idiots doing 150+mph down the highways in a straight line.

"Chicken Strips"

Keep in mind, you may be calling them a "p*ssy" because of this, but they may have a situation where they are forced to ride day in day out for long distances on superslab, and not a reasonable corner to be found. Keep in mind, all riders are different... different skill levels, different objectives, different equipment, different conditions. Not everyone can scrub a tire bald from sidewall to sidewall, and not everyone has a desire to do so.

Frankly I could care less what anyone's tires look like so long as they're properly inflated and not worn in a manner that lends itself to an unsafe riding condition.

Rusty chains on the other hand... *facepalm* Neglecting maintenance is something that any rider should be shot on sight for. After all, it's their life on the line already, why not just end it quickly with a bang.

I can't even figure out where my chicken strips are, I've been told that I can lean but I'd like to know what the definitive chicken strip threshold is.

I can't help but look for the chicken strips on any supersport I pull up behind at a light or walk by in a parking lot.
Im sure I have "chicken strips" on my CBR250R. Just took it in for the 600 mile service yesterday. (this is my first bike)

/rant What a bunch of crap! I had to look up the term to see what you all were talking about heh.

This thread makes me sad.

I will get on my bike ride it the way I want and enjoying doing it as fast or slow as I like. Sure didnt start riding to "impress" people with my motorcycle and how much rubber I run of the tires. WTH

/rant off

all though corners are 50% of the fun riding a motorcycle:). You got to remember that if you are in a corner and are leaned out pretty far, it does not give you much room to make a correction if you have to navigate a patch of sand or a deer or anything else for that matter. Dont get me wrong I love to hang off the seat as much as the next guy but I want to come home too.
Less lean maybe less fun but it also gives you the chance to use more lean if you need it in a pinch.

rofl but seriously, I'll have to get a new phone so I can take pics of my rear tyre and post them. Just ignore the burnout marks.

I'm fairly 'proud' mine doesn't have pronounced chicken strips (almost at the 600 mile service mark -- been breaking it in on backroads), but due to safety concerns I never really lean as much as I want to. Sure I know the bike can handle it, however I take corners quite slow if I can't see through them/they are blind, as I've seen too many cars using up more than their own lane of road through them.

Valid point, no point trying to lean if you can't see what's around the corner. I've been taught to enter corners slow and wide (still within my lane) as it gives me more room for error-adaptation. Also lets me see further and because I've started wide, I can carve right in and use the inside (later apex) for a nice speedy exit.
