Shortly after I switched to full synthetic Honda oil at 8,000 miles, the oil level sight glass now leaks a little. It's not spilled oil dripping down the case from the fill hole. It is definitely coming from between the glass and case. I've heard in the olden days, synthetic oil could make oil leaks more likely. Is that true of modern synthetic oils? Was this just a coincidence? Has anybody else's sight glass seal started to weep?

1) Incorrectly fitted oil filter
2) blown filter gasket

Dont think its from the glass anyway
Definitely coming from the glass seal. No oil around the filter cover. I did the athlete's foot antifungal spray powder trick around the whole area after cleaning it. After a ride, the powder was oil stained only at the lower edge of the joining between glass and case.

Here are some pictures showing clearly the oil is not coming from the filter cover, or dripping down from above. The oil mist has moistened the entire window. The resultant oil spray on the plastic and muffler. An oil leak on a two year old 8,000 mile Honda Motorycycle. Whodathotit? Give me a dipstick over a sight glass any day. At least I can change the two-bit O-ring in ten seconds on a dipstick.

I've had an ongoing issue since I purchased the vehicle brand new. Still leaking but honda wouldn't fix it. While the sight glass leak wasn't as steady as yours, it still bugs me. supposedly it's a simple fix but I've been waiting for someone on here to provide a guide with pictures before I attempt it.

I got tired of the oil mist all over my muffler cover and oil dripping down the side, and took it in. The service guy said the only way this would not be a warranty issue is if there was some evidence of gross abuse, for example if they started the job and found a screwdriver had been jammed into the window/case gap. Otherwise, he said it would be hard to imagine it not being covered under Honda's warranty. He looked up the part, and there is no indication the sight glass, backing cup or seal are separate from the right engine cover. They are pressed into place at the factory where the cover is made, so they would have to change the entire right cover, which would include a new water pump, and several other parts not in question. A pretty absurd waste, and I'm not into unecessarily replacing proven-functional things that aren't broken with new, unproven parts. But the bike goes in two days from now for them to fix it.

When I dropped the bike of this AM, I was informed I needed to sign agreement to a flat 2.5 hour "diagnostic" fee of $250, after which if a warrantable issue was found, there would be no charge for the diagnosis or repair. Not sure why it would take a Honda mechanic 2.5 hours to figure out why the oil sight glass is leaking. Last time I had a bike into a mechanic, the "diagnose and advise" fee was an hour or less.

But, your crankcase cover sight glass is leaking oil, therefore it is broken.

Is your bike actually still within the 12 month factory warranty period?... If it is, then I would not sign any such 2.5 hr. "diagnostic" fee agreement, as that is definitely not SOP when it comes to how warranty work is done. If this is the situation, I'd take the bike to another more reputable dealer.

Or is this a case of the dealer going out of his way to try and get Honda to cover it under warranty, even though the original warranty period on your bike has expired?... In which case he is just being smart, and covering himself in the event that honda says no to warranty coverage, so he doesn't end up doing work and not getting paid for it.

Strelok89,
Bro your Bike has Died Hasn't it at that 48000 KM Mark?
And i think you said you used Motul 7100. (Oil Designed for Twins)
Strelok89 Good Luck again with the Restoration of your Bike.

I asked Honda South Africa and they Say, "Recommended Oil to Uses is Castrol Actevo 4T 10W40 Semi Synthetic Tri-Zone."

So I'll Take Honda's Engineers Recommendations.

TurboDV8, Good luck with the leak hope you get it sorted with the minimal cost needed.

The bike died but it defenatly not oil problem, and I can tell by the wear that the oil is great oil the best I ever used.

The motul 7100 is almost top of the line motul oil for singles, the best is 300v

In israel the Honda dealer say the recommended oil is agip city 4t 10w-40, in USA they use Honda oil.
So I guess Honda recommends the oil with the best deal the dealer could get
