Dear Fellow Riders.

I'm from Colombia and I'm pretty happy about my CBR. However, there is a group of people in my country who are totally crazy about the so-called "rattle". They're even taking legal actions against Honda's local dealer and they're giving this bike a really bad name.
So I decided to create an online survey to figure out whether they're right and I'm just too enthusiastic about my bike or I'm right and there's nothing to be worried about.

Then, I'd really appreciate if you can fill in this survey:

Feel free to forward this link to any fellow rider you know.

I promise I'll share the results as soon as they're released.

I hear rattles every day... same ones I'm sure that Aufitt hears too.

I haven't heard a rattle yet that would concern me, though...

The Survey, so far

Dear Friends

Below some partial results of the survey. Is the rattle a urban myth? Is it real? Is it something we should care about? Let's answer this survey and find out.

The survey is going to be open till sunday. Be a part of it!! :)

Such ignorance.....

I disagree. Aufitt isn't ignorant. Quite the opposite. He knows it all.

FWIW, my bike not only has the "5.5K" rattle, now I heard a new rattle. I was carrying a case of spray paint home on the back seat the other day, and the bike rattled like crazy. :D

Hi Aufitt

I'm one of those who have the rattle but I couldn't care less about it. I didn't, and I won't, answer the survey just to avoid rigging the survey. The only purpose of it is to figure out how relevant it is worldwide and also check whether there are any pattern or trend within those who claim they're having the issue.

Last, I really hope it's the last "rattle" thread

Soo this Rattle thing.

IM just curious. Cause my bike has two separate issues. A) there is a Buzz/Rattle i get at about 6k rpm and B) there is an occasional clunk/Click/Clack (bolt bouncing around the engine that happens at idle but VERY inconsistently... Any ideas? is ith the same dreaded "rattle" we are all aware of?

The clunking issue, sounds like the "bb in a can" issue others have talked about. Take it in..have the mechanic record it and then call Honda and tell them what it is doing and that you did take it in. All of these issues need to be reported or Honda won't get the big picture that a lot of these bikes are rubbish.

Can anyone tell me how I work out if my bike has a rattle, what are the circumstances under which it occurs. This is starting to sound like the stalling issue which has happened to me on occasions until I adjusted my riding style.

It happens between 5k and 6k rpm, tipically at 2nd and/or 3rd gear. Since it's not loud it's difficult to hear. It doesn't happen at idle so it makes it even more difficult to identify. There are no changes in performance when the rattle appears so the only way to notice it is by hearing it.

I personally think there's no reason to be worried about, but several others think it's a serius issue. That's the reason why I decided to make this survey.
