well i have been looking at motorcycle dealerships and fell in love with a burnt orange 2011 kawasaki ninja 650r. i do a lot of ridding and am thinking about picking her up, i will still keep the cbr250 but my girlfriend will be taking over payments. so what do you guys think? i love my 250 but she lacks power when im cruising at interstate speeds, and the 650r is more for long distance ridding than my little cbr.

I like the 650r. If I'm stepping up to a bigger bike, I'd be looking at that or maybe a Suzuki Gladius or a er-6n. I think sometimes more power would be nice on the highway especially because I'm a bit heavy and top out at 135 -140kph on the 250. But, the price of insurance and of the bike itself, really, makes me wonder if I need very much more power. So, I'm looking at the ninja 300 but hoping that honda puts out a 400cc cbr. Anything bigger than 400cc here means an extra $100 a month for insurance.

I also think a girlfriend that makes payments on my cbr250 would be pretty sweet. I need to find one of those.

What is wrong with you? The CBR250 is perfectly capable of interstate riding and there are people who have taken theirs from Patagonia all the way to the Arctic Circle so there is absolutely NO REASON for you to move to a Ninja 650!!

OK now that the prerequisite scolding is out of the way, me says that if the Ninja 650 floats your boat, you can afford it, and you think it will suit your riding better than the CBR then have at.

the only problem i have with my cbr250 she cant maintain a constant 75mph speed without running wide open and losing speed up hill. i can ride in a full tuck but it is uncomfortable in long distances for me. i would also like a little more power so i can get out of trouble easier and pass cars easier while running these speeds. im 187lbs and 6ft tall. other than that, i love everything about my little cbr.

But it's so puny. How could it ever do those things?!

I was just being facetious, my CBR250 is just the bike I own right now and I have no special affinity for it so it doesn't bother me in the least when someone talks of wanting to move to another bike. If you decide that the Ninja 650 works better for you and your situation then best of luck to ya...

Also consider the Yamaha FZ6r, one of the biggest advantage of this bike over any other 650 class bikes is the sound (Inline 4) and the smoothness of the engine(less vibration). I upgraded from the cbr250r to this bike and I have no regret at all. However now I have to spent $14 to fill up every 4 days instead of $9. But all the fun I got from the FZ6r vastly offset the additional cost of gas. BTW, my insurance increases $10 yearly with Titan insurance.

Sounds like you got it all worked out finalgamer, let the girlfriend take over the payments on the 250 and pick up the ninja650r. This should open up the oppertunity to spend more quality time together riding/working on motorcycles. Im with jackiebike check out the yamaha fz6r, this is a awesome bike, a perfect mix of sport/touring/power/comfort and its priced right.

Lacks power while cruising? on the interstate?

1. When cruising, you keep a constant speed.

2. What the heck do you need extra power for? The 250 will go faster than the posted speed limit.

I think you're just power hungry.
This is the kind of commentary I was spoofing (or at least attempting to spoof) with my first post on this thread.

After owning this bike for a few months and seeing what it can do. If I was going to be doing a lot of interstate riding I would want a faster bike on the top end. One that could get up to 90-95 quickly to pass faster and have more control of your speed. At these speeds on the 250r the acceleration isn't comfortable to me. I want to have the same sense of power my car delivers to feel safe on the interstate. I think a bike that can get up to at least 110-120 maxing it out is about where I think I would want to be power wise for being on the interstate on a bike.

I've gotten my bike up to 85 mph and it took quite a bit of time to get there. I'd want to be able to get to 85 much faster if I was on the interstate. So that I can pass and so that I could go up hills and mountains at speed. Yes the bike gets up to 70-75 decently and can travel on the interstate but I just would feel uneasy about doing it often.

But for what I bought the bike for, 55mph zone commuting to school it does just fine. And gets great fuel economy.

This Triumph Tiger 800 is the bike I ride the most, awesome bike and engine.

For the money you can't go wrong with a Kawasaki Versys, I had this one before the Tiger, great bike.

And for touring Givi's work well on the Versys.

if i was power hungry i would be looking at a ss bike. i just want the ability to accelerate quickly out of dangerous situations at 75mph. ive topped my 250 out at 85mph and it took a while to get there.

Accelerating out of high speed dangerous situations is macho fantasy.

Slowing down and evading danger is for real riders who want to survive.

And I don't mean slamming on the brakes in the hope that your fancy ABS is going to pull you up in time to save your arse. If it comes to that you were probably going too fast for the conditions and/or not concentrating.

If you want a bigger, faster bike, get one. It may, or may not, be a bigger buzz.

Just don't kid yourself that it is going to be safer.

i will take a look at the honda nc700s, the tiger and versys and also the fz6r. to all those offering suggestions, thank you :)
and if you want an inline 4 cylinder 600cc 75hp bike and want to stay with Honda, there is the CBF600sa. That is one i have my eye on. tho from what i have read the nc700 is faster to 130kph compared to the CBF. plus the nc700 will cruise at 140kph all day and has a top speed of 185kph. And plus it does all that with about the same gas usage as our cbr250. so now not sure.

i also like the nc700 storage. still have until atleast next spring 2013 to decide, definately be looking close at all the above mentioned bikes. and i too would love to keep it <400cc for cheap insurance. so hope Honda comes out with the rumoured cbr400.

Personally, I'd get a Striple. I'm a power:weight kind of guy and the Striple weighs a cool 410 lbs. wet, which is in line with a supersport and only 40 more than the 250. Makes the Jap equivalents (at 470 lbs average) look like porkers.
