I'm sorry if there is already a thread for this issue.

I had bought Indian version on June. In the beginning there was no such tick tick sound or may be I didn't hear it. I started hearing it after my friend revved it immediately after start up. I thought it was a valve problem and asked the mechanic to check the valve in the 1st servicing, but he said that although he can hear the sound, this bike has shim instead of valve and shim can only be replaced and no check is required and shim replacement is done on 16k servicing only.

Is this sound a problem? It is present when the bike is on idel, when i start revving the bike i hear little or no sound. But comes back when deaccelerate or keep the constant rev.
I'm reporting this because when i watch youtube video then i don't hear that sound which is present in mine.

except that sound this bike runs very nice.
but this bike died on me 2 times till now. Don't know how.

Currently I've done around 3k km on it.
I had followed ownership manual for initial breakin

Welcome aboard Matey. Your mechanic lied to you. Your first valve clearance check and adjustment, if neccessary, should be at your 600 mile or 1000km service.

A shim is used to adjust the valve clearance for each valve. The ticking at idle sound is a slightly loose valve if this is more pronounce at start up (cold engine just started). Tight valves are bad; slightly loose valves are no worry.

Your bike has 4 valves. The free play should be greater on the exhaust valves than on the intake valves because the exhaust valves heat up a bit more and expand a tad more.

I'd get a manual and learn to do it myself (I did this with my NX on which you have to remove the valve cover to measure the freeplay and remove the cams to replace shims) but if you are not willing or able to do this, you should have the valve clearance inspected by a mechanic that you trust. It really should have been checked at the 1000 kilometer check.

P.S. I've got over 46K kilometers on my NX250, and I've put on the last 30K since I bought it 5 years ago. Honda makes decent engines, but, they do need regular maintenance.

Thanks for reply. I was bit concerned with the sound that it produced. Thanks for clearing it out. I'll go to service center coming Sunday and lets see what happens.

I wanted the ticking sound to be reduced because i like the sound of this bike and would love to hear only that sound
