Tinting Windscreen: Paint? Regular Tinting?

6769 Views 26 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  BBRMotosports
I know there are threads showing the finished product, but no comments on how the screen was tinted. Some buy new, some DIY tint the screen. I'm wishing to save money and therefore considering the DIY project but I need to know the pros and cons regarding painting or the tint kit. Motorcycle windscreens are more challenging than cars due to the material bike screens are made of and their shape.

Any advice and personal experience re: what choice and path to pursue will be greatly appreciated:D

most back windows on cars come in precut strips because of the windos curvature and even then you have some overlapping...the cbr windscreen is an extreme curve...dont see how you could tint it,even with precurved strips and not have the overlapping strips stick out like a sore thumb and look like sh%#...i would love to tint my windscreen with mirror tint :D

I remember there used to be that spray can tint crap years ago..dont even know if they make that stuff anymore or how that would look either
That's disappointing:( I don't want my bike to look like shite.
Auto window tint is for glass, not plastic. Talk to some window glass shop. Ask about a spray on tint for plastic.

If you dont mind doing bit of work on the bike why dont you buy the tinted window, they are only like 40 bucks. I mean a lot of work could be involved in spraying the windscreen (in case it goes wrong) and how much would a spray cost. Just a thought.
Best way if you wanted a tinted screen is to just buy a tinted replacement IMO. Any other tinting is going to be a PITA, not look as good, and probably cost as much.

One other thing you could do, if you didn't mind not being able to look through the screen, is to spray black Plasti Dip on the underside. It's possible it may screw-up the plastic though, you'd have to test it somehow. You may be able to mask everything (including the outside of the screen) and spray it in-place, but I'm not sure if there's enough room for that or not. I know removing the screen is a pain, and it's possible you would mess-up the Plasti Dip when you went to reinstall it.
Last weekend i spray painted mine and it came out very well. I keep hearing people saying it took them hours to get the fairings off, but it look me less than an hour to get both off(just pay attention to what bolts go where). Anyway, i just cleaned it very well and did several very light coats of krylon black gloss and i love the looks of it.
hey I said in other thread that I´ll apply micro perforated plastic film to windscreen, I´ll do it tomorrow and get somo pics, it´s very cheap ( $9) !!!! or less and can be applied to any curvature, material etc,

Use Lamin-X, it's made to stretch around complex curves (with the assistance of a hair dryer) and also has a good warranty. It's a "breathable and self-healing polyvinyl film" so even if you have a few bubbles after the install, they will go away in about a week of warm weather. It's available in a few different tints and colors.

Not really a "tint" though hahaha
So, I phoned my local Powerhouse Dealer where I bought my bike and enquired about the cost of a tinted windscreen. Guess what I was told????? There are none available yet! In reply I asked why other 250 owners have them and she answered Canada has yet to receive them. In conclusion....Honda is still dragging their #**# on replacement parts for the 250 even though the 2012's are now out. What a crock of "poo"! I'm a big Honda fan and so far have enjoyed good service but frankly, I'm a tad annoyed that a year and a half later owners are unable to purchase parts cause "there not available yet"!!! Mean while other companies are capitalizing off the new Honda quarter litre by supplyling these parts and Honda appears to be sitting on their "sit upon bones". Grrrrrr:mad:

Canada is not a third world country FOR THE LOVE. Is our border THAT inpenatrable???

Well, everyone.....first of all thx for all the suggestions. Decided to purchase a tinted windscreen instead of a DIY job. I have'nt scrimped on any of the other mods on my "boy" so decided I wouldn't start with the windscreen. Thus, my new one shd be arriving any day. It better cause the weather can only get better from now on and i've got "lack of riding fever". Again, th for the feed back. As soon as my ride gets back from Powerhouse with all the ods I'll post some pics. I'm thinking my bike will look a wee bit like WOOLFS lol.

This is cheap and appears to fit.
Thx AOP. Wish I was a DIY gal but, alas, on some things i'm uncertain of. When I started looking into tinting/painting I soon learned the project can turn into a cluster "something something", therefore my screen is ordered. Last week couldn't even order a windscreen in Canada, now it appears we can. Who knows???:confused::confused:
