"Well that sucks"

Talked to my dealer today to get an update on when or if he'd be getting the ABS model I ordered. He told me he just talked to his Honda rep. the other day and that they're only sending out 6 ABS models for the region. Apparenly the "region" is about 20 states.

Not only that, but he's not even getting a non-ABS model until June and Honda won't even allow him to order anymore, the one I ordered isn't even showing up in the extended shipping report or whatever they call it. So that'd be atleast past June if he was lucky enough to get one of those 6 ABS models.

Needless to say I told him to try and get a dealer trade for a black/non abs and if nothing else I'll take the one he's got coming in late June.

He seemed just as dissapointed in how Honda is handling this as the rest of us. They really missed the boat.

If mines not in by Monday Im buyin the Shadow Phantom instead.
It seems that honda has talked the talk about getting these bikes out and have not walked the walk.. it just seems to suck big time for potential consumers with all of these ads out on the web then you get a big oh by the way we will be gettting 2 in this summer..good luck..that being said i kind of walked into a shop on the right day and bought it right then, right there..just timing..good luck with the dealerships in your area..
I had a talk with my frustrated Honda salesman as I checked on my red ABS ordered late March. He said Honda has done this before. That is, advertise & create tremendous hype on a new model & then let them trickle out way behind the demand. He mentioned several models they brought to the market this way in the past. He does not understand their thinking and neither do I. He also doesn't think Japan's problems have anything to do with it.

I told him it's a good way to up sales on Ninja's & he knows his customers get upset & do not want to wait.

This is definitely frustrating and is making me lose some respect for Honda.
This really has become quite upsetting. Never ever really getting a clear answer from Honda is putting a sour taste in my mouth. I received an email yesterday from my finance guy at the dealership. It started out with good news stating that everything was in good order and all I needed now was for the bike to arrive. Sometime May 16-18. I was upset since for a few weeks now the firm date given to me and others in the province was May 13-16. Now I know that is only a couple of days but I had to reply to him stating how happy I was about yet another date change! I put my deposit down in Mid March. I've bought all my gear and some in anticipation of getting this thing. Even yesterday I bought a Tail Bag and a Front Wheel Chock. Where is my bike!!!

Sorry Had To Vent:mad:
ou8jonesey - thanks for the update - at least your dealer is giving you a fairly consistent time frame. Did you see yesterday that they have bikes in Calgary? see calgary250's post. Seems the powerhouse dealer there received 24 bikes and is expecting more within the next couple of weeks. Good news for them, sucks to be here with no bike in sight... I can't believe how vague honda canada has been with respect to info. I called them on monday of this week and was told that nothing would be shipped before may 16! I'm guessing bikes are in AB before ON simply b/c of the rail shipment from Vancouver, where i assume they are being unloaded.:confused: are you waiting for an ABS or non-ABS?
My guess is that they couldn't convince financial backers to let them produce the amount of bikes they thought they could sell. A lot of times a new product will not be able to meet the demand because they simply don't have enough investment in the product. Obviously they underestimated the demand for a 250cc, which seems fairly predictable since it took them so long to create this bike in the first place.

Personally, I think you should just go out and buy the stinkin non-abs like me, and if you really want ABS just sell your bike next year and get the 2012 ABS model when it comes out at a normal time like every other Honda bike out there. You couldn't lose much money on the bike, especially if you can convince your dealer to lower set up fees and freight cost.

And what does he know about what is going on in Japan? You ever tried to carry on business during a snow storm or after a tornado wipes out your town, just imagine. Tokoyo is in complete uncertainty. Get ready to wait, the launch has been disrupted or delayed all over the world.
My dealer in Oregon has changed the delivery story too many times to recount now..I had a deposit for abs/black which the dealership said would be in nlt mid June. Two days ago they received one non abs which they told me to come look at at 1100 yesterday. I said I would be there and possibly just take that bike. So he calls me about 1015 as I was heading out the door and tells me there is no bike to look at..it was sold and gone! So I said ---, you promised me it would be available. No, too bad. And to make it worse, much worse, he says they do not know when they will see another cbr250 of any kind!!

That does suck, guy probably offered more on the spot. Maybe it's time to start calling around and find the next closest one. I know how hard that can be, but I can see where this is headed.

I wouldn't be afraid of riding it home. (you can always take a bus to get there.)

This is true, even Chevy had to close down some truck plants because they couldnt get parts from Japan. Im sure lots of other companies are affected too. This is a huge disaster, delays should be expected, and probaly for awhile.

Crazy coincidence, dealer just called and said he got 2 of the 3 bikes, black ones. The guy who ordered the red one is out of luck. Headin down there soon.
Riverguide. No I didn't know AB had them already. Funny I just moved to the GTA from Northern Ontario. I was told Toronto was the centre of the universe, yet no bike lol.
I ordered the Red non ABS.
well, Toronto likes to think it is the centre of the universe! I guess we'll see how it plays out over the next 2 weeks. This waiting game is ridiculous, as we all know. What a PR disaster for honda. It's funny how they can build some of the most sophisticated machines on the planet and yet not be able to tell us, via the dealers, what is coming on a boat from Thailand. Even canada post has a better tracking service! I am becoming more and more skeptical (read: suspicious) that HC and in turn the dealers, are being deliberately vague so as to not lose too many potential buyers to brand K. That is, perhaps their worry is that if they are straight with the consumers, they know they will lose alot of us waiting/hoping for a new ride this season. they have been clearly affected by a mix of too little production, more than expected demand, and supply issues from the homeland, yet, if i were in their shoes I'd be doing everything i could to be clear with consumers, rather than play what seems to be a wait-and-see game. It totally sucks. If i ran my business this way i'd go bankrupt!! I'm giving it 2 weeks tops, then if no clear answer (or better yet) a bike in my driveway I'm out.

Well Riverguide if we do get our bikes in the next two weeks we should go for a ride together. Meet halfway or something.

I agree with the bad communication/handling of this. I wish they would have been up front and honest about the whole situation no matter what the reasons are. I even told my dealer that I am not interested in brand K so they weren't going to lose me to them. I can just imagine the smiles on K's dealers though. Just a thought does anyone know if the Ninja 250 is of short supply? I mean they are Japanese as well.
Sounds like a plan ! As far as kawi goes. I just noticed that they have increased their cash back deal on the 250, lowered their price on the 400 and 650 and extended the rebate offer to June 30. Something tells me their inventory may be too good! I may look into it even though I too am sold on the cbr. As my first bike I would much prefer the fi and abs to the existing k250.
Spoke to a Suzuki dealer about getting a GS500F, he said good luck. My local Honda dealer said he has no idea when hes getting any bikes in, everythings in short supply. They dont have any sport bikes on the floor at all, just a handful of cruisers.

qlred, thanks for you thoughts. I have started calling and e mailing other dealers..I am beginning to think unless you are a full up Power dealer you are getting left behind on the CBR's. And ABS may just not happen. No parts to build those due to availability from Japan? Who knows what is going on at Honda...We all speculate at best. It still blows my mind the a dealer in Oklahoma, Iowa, and Ohio are on E Bay saying take your pick of red or black...and all at MSRP..! Maybe fly to Oklahoma City? They will pick you up at the airport...it would be an adventure...!

My dealer in Oly WA has a red on the floor. Said he is getting in Two black. No other bikes this year or ABS. They are 5350 OTD. It is what it is, I'm sorry. At least you are getting an adventure out of it!
xplorguy, I also saw on advrider a lady bought one for 4600 otd don't know from where, but her handle had central washington. I ask how many they had, but she hasn't replied, so no telling I guess.
I have found a blk cbr available for msrp plus $250 frt. No ABS. I had really wanted the abs version..so now I must decide. I may not find abs until...who knows when..........
