Alright, so I was going to meet me girlfriend at Walmart, since her mother does not love the fact I ride a motorcycle. Anyways, I usually lock the secondary helmet onto the helmet lock under the backseat trunk, then close it and flip the helm onto the backseat, then I hop on and ride.

So all was well, then I get to Walmart, parked, texted her I was there. Then I went to unlock the backseat, tossed my keys in the small trunk compartment...unhooked her helm, then closed the backseat. 5 seconds later I realized I did not have my keys. Instantly texted her "WAIT DON'T COME YET" LOL, I was going to make my buddy run me my spare, but my ego was crushed for such a stupid mistake I made.

I didn't call my buddy, I shoved all the weight onto one side of the prong, and pry'ed open one latch and was able to sneak my hand into get the key. I was so embarrassed I didn't care if the plastic latch broke, I would have bought a new one. LUCKILY it didn't and I went on. SUPER EMBARRASSING :p and stupid haha. Well now I know what to do when it happens again. Luckily I didn't hurt my bike in the process of recovering my key :D

Many have done dumber things...
Yesterday, at a track day, a guy hauled his bike to the track, but forgot his key.
No problem, he said. A few splices, and the ignition was bypassed.

Later in the day, he realized he couldn't fill his tank without a key either.
No problem, he said. A few allen screws out, and the cap assembly was removed.
Then he realized he brought the wrong can of gas. (Pre-mix for his dirt bike)

Some days, you just can't win!

I usually just leave the key in the side of the bike when under the rear seat . Its amazing how well the key hides down there and ive had a few , now where did i leave my keys moments .
Me too! I've searched for several minutes for my keys only to realize they are hanging from the side of the bike. Tricky little place.

A couple of weeks ago I rode my bike to the parking lot where I take a bus for 40 mins to get to work in Downtown Dallas.

30 seconds after the bus left the parking lot, I realized I didn't have my keys. They were hanging off the side of my bike in the key hole for the seat release.

Problem was it's an express bus, and they won't let you off once you get on except at designated stops, and you guessed it, the first stop was 40 mins later downtown.

So I had two choices: 1) take the bus all the way back to the parking lot, retrieve my keys, and take the bus back to work; 2) Pray that nobody at the lot sees the keys in the side of the bike.

I did #1. It would have bothered me all day knowing that someone could just hop on my bike and take it, since I wouldn't have returned until 6 pm ish.

It worked out okay because we were really slow at work. I also am reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance so I got quite a bit of reading in that day with my two roundtrips to downtown.

go to a locksmith [will have motorcycle blanks] for new key cut,
tape a key securely up out of the way inside your helmet..
otherwise, wear it on a neck chain as 'bike jewelery'..

i havnt but you can attach it variously to the bike,
hidden out of the way of course, by wire tie or box..
