the website says it comes with a P-Tip (sound suppression). Did you get to choose which one (the P1 -3/4 db, or the P1X - -7/8 db)?
I just installed my 2Bros Black Aluminum this morning. It's loud. I'm gonna mod the stock tip using an old chopper trick before I spring the bucks for the P1X tip. I'll post up my results.

At cruising load, it's not bad, but this is a 250 and most of the time your on the gas somewhat. The more load, the louder it is.

Just an update, old chopper trick (washer or thumbscrew a right angle to exhaust flow - and it's adjustable!) didn't work. I think it's close to the end. In fact, when fully closed, I think it got louder! Closed halfway seemed to make some diff, not much.

Looks like I'm spending money for some packing and the quiet tip.

Nothing worse than a vehicle that makes a **** load of noise and doesn't accelerate to match the ruckus <cough>HD</cough>

I'm on the boat with re-installing the stocker as well. I'll try the quiet tip and packing and if I'm not happy with the results I'll put the stocker back on and sell the 2Bros.

If I could get a sound half way between the 2 Bros and the Stocker, I'd be one happy camper. As it is, the 2 Bros is embarrassing and downright inconsiderate first thing in the morning to my neighbours.

Though for some reason this afternoon when I had some stuff to do at lunch it seemed to have toned itself down some. Most pipes do that, but not usually until you have 5000 or so miles on them.

Just a little update. I realized after I posted my last reply that I'd be happier with the sewing machine sound so I put the stocker back on after work tonight. I'm going to repack the the 2Bro's and order the P1X tip (supposed to be 7db quieter).

If that doesn't tone it down enough, it'll be for sale.

As for power, their is no discernable difference between it and the stocker, it just sounds faster. But it does look sweet!

Just in case anybody else wants to try it. Here's the sound mod. The thumbscrew (picked up at Lowe's for a $1.50) is in at about a 45 degree angle. 90 degrees I swear it made it louder! But at 45 it definitely knocked it down a couple of db.

Update. Picked up some more 4 stroke packing and drilled out the rivets on my brand new exhaust (gulp). Long story short. It's packed tight from the factory. A layer of steel wool surrounds the baffle, followed by a thick layer of fiberglass. Those rumours of 2 Bros. cans being lightly packed from the factory don't seem to be true any longer.

I couldn't stuff another ounce of packing in their if I tried.

So that only leaves the P1X tip and any mod we can come up with to shut the thing up some! I'll snap some pics before I button it back up.

I also know of another old school chopper mod (my past is coming through isn't it..)

A dishwasher strainer. Maybe something out of bar sink would fit. It'll introduce a lot of back pressure though so you have to tune it with some 'Speed Holes'.

I'll see how the tip P1X tip does and if it doesn't tame the bark enough. I'll try the dishwasher mod.

Oh ya, when re-assembling your 2Bros from packing, don't forget the little trim pieces that go under the rivets. Serves me right for doing it first thing in the AM.

Not sure if tighter fiberglass packing or loose would be quieter, Steve. Logic would say loose packing. I never stuffed a muffler, so what do I know.

I'll be riding with earplugs and pissing off neighbors untill "we", collectively speaking, find a quiet solution to our loud pipes.
I've repacked my dirt bike exhausts and tight is good. Especially with power pulses from a single - it plays havoc with packing. if it's loose, it won't last long.

I found a strainer for a bar sink online at home depot that should fit with some massaging. Shame it's a holiday today in Canada (Labour Day) as today would've been perfect to try it.

I expect the P1X tip to be delivered in about 10 days. Stay tuna'd.

P1X tip came in pronto. Got it installed and the can back on the bike. Save your money. It's 'slightly' quieter at idle, no diff anywhere else. So, now, plan C.

As much as I hated to do it, I put the stock exhaust back on. I loved the way the bike looked but the sound was way to loud.
Hehe.. were flip floppin. I've got my 2Bros back on the bike. Don't sell it just yet. I'm going to be trying out Plan C before the end of the weekend and I can pretty much guarantee I can cut the sound level by at least 25%. Don't know how much it will kill performance though.

Lets face it, the 2hp gain on the top end won't be noticed unless your racing. But anytime you introduce any sort of obstruction to kill the sound your going to introduce back pressure. But I like the idea of the weight loss and the looks.

I am really sorry to hear that the px1 didn't do anything. I was hoping that it would make a difference.
There was a bit of difference at idle and I mean a bit. Above that. No diff.

I'm gonna mod the original tip and try to recoup my $ I paid for the P1X tip. Hey, it looks trick!

Shutting up the 2 bros!

Okay, here's plan C.

I finally got over to Home Depot and picked up two Moen part # M2180. Which in laymans terms are 1.5" bar sink strainers, chrome. Hey, nothing but the blingiest bling for my CBR!

Anyway, the idea is to put in the inlet side of the factory 2 Bros tip.

I'm not doing it tonight, but I did do a trial fit.

This will have to be tapped in the rest of the way with a socket and a hammer. Otherwise its a perfect tight press fit. I can't see it ever coming out by itself, but if it works, I'll run two rivets through it.

You can see the amount of surface area in this pic. I'm sure this will pose a significant restriction. It should really do a good job shutting it up! If it seems like to much restriction this would be _easy_ to open up a few of the holes with a drill.

Total cost: $2.99 and it'll be completely invisible.

I'll make a sound clip tomorrow. Promise.

Update:

Success!

Video/Sound clip is uploading. With my internet connection, recently downgraded to the 'Lite' (read: SLOW) connection, should be done in about 3hrs.

Tapped the piece in home. Really tight fit. I don't see any need to rivet it in. Fired it up. How to quantify this... Lets call it about 25% of the volume between the stock pipe and the 2Bros. But I was worried about restriction. Hey lets face it, the diff between the stock pipe and the 2Bros is only 2 hp. The stock unit must flow pretty good.

So I opened up the center hole with a step bit to about 9/16ths. Ah ya, thats the ticket. About 50% between the stock and the 2 Bros.

Still has a little bark when you get on it a bit.

PERFECT.

So there you have it. Barring any sort of fueling problems (can't see that happening), it looks like this is the solution, or, at least, one of the solutions!

Sound clip. You can hear a crow cawing at the start to give you an idea of the sound levels. This was a cold start and it's a tad louder than when warm.

Went for a ride while this was uploading, no diff in power, just a HUGE diff in the sound level.

So all you guys with loud 2Bros. This seems to be the best solution. Hit up Home Depot or Lowes or wherever, spend $3 and about 15 minutes of time to shut it up!

How long is the 2Bros insert?
The inside portion of the insert is about 4" long. the P1X insert is only about 2" long but it's of smaller diameter. I modded the stock insert.

Exterior dimension of the interior part of the pipe is 1 1/2, inside is about 1 3/8. The little strainer is tapered from just under 1 3/8 to 1 1/2. Hence my comment about tapping it home.

You can buy these strainers in different diameters so just measure you pipe first. Theirs even a little lip on the 'large end' of the strainer to keep you from driving it in to far.

****, I should put these things up on EBay and sell them for $15 a shot!

Another little update.

Despite a REALLY tight fit (had to seat it with a hammer and socket), I'm going to have to rivet the strainer in place. A few hot/cold cycles has it rattling a little bit when cold. Stops after about 10 seconds of run time, but it will only get worse.

Steve, how is the sound at full acceleration? The stock 2bros literally hurt my eardrums.

Thanks for the experimentation. Now I have a weekend project.
It's pretty consistent being about halfway between the stocker and the out of the box 2-Bros. If your experiementing, start with a 1/4" hole in the center and try it. If its not to your liking and you want it louder, go bigger. I ended up with approximately a 9/16" hole in the center.

I was tempted to open it up a bit more, but glad I didn't.

Just buy two of the strainers in case you screw one up by going to big. Their cheap. Don't forget to pop rivet the strainer in place. Mine has loosened up some and rattles a bit when cold.
