Just curious, I picked up my CBR 250 yesterday, and now have 80km's on it. Riding it normally, not winding it up etc. Have not passed 6500RPM as of yet. My question is, when cruising at around 5500RPM, i definitely hear some sort of valve tick/noise going on. Anyone else experience this?

noise

Oil is perfect. I made them add 100ml at the dealership as it was too low for my liking. I do agree that it's probably tappet noise. Better to hear it, than to not! I do know that my dealer (powerhouse) does not inspect the valves at the first service unless you ask them. They listen to them. However, you can't hear a tight valve though, can you!? I will do the valve service myself after 600 miles. Other than the tappet noise at certain RPM, she purrs like a kitty kat, and I'm the envy of town.

Noise

Another thought is that it could be weak tensioners. Again, I only hear it at 5000rpm. At that point, it comes in and out like bb's in a can. If the tensioner is controlled via oil pressure, that could be the culprit. I have read that the 600's have this issue, and most people end up putting manual tensioners in them to rid the clacking noise.

Noise

Yeah, I'm gonna keep riding it. It seems to be at one particular RPM and even sporadic then. I was reading on Thai Visa forum of someone who had a knocking at 4-5K RPM. Since he was in Thailand, Honda sent an engineer and took the bike back. Said it was a problem burning oil, something to do with the piston (their fault), and replaced it, the skirt etc, and problem solved. It's really hard to know on this bike since it's such a new motor. Hopefully it will go away. If there is an issue with it, parts availability will be problematic right now.

update

Spoke with KW Honda today, and they said their demo bike with 88kms makes the same noise. It's more of a rattle than a knock, and I agree. Knock was the wrong word. Perhaps it will work itself out with more km's, I don't know.

Valves

Well, I have 200km on the clock, and the rattle is still there. I popped open the valve cover today and found the following; the intakes are on spec, the exhausts are tight. Spec for exhaust is 0.011 plus/minus 0.001. My exhaust valves are at 0.008. Too tight. Guys at the dealership told me to keep riding until I get to my 1K, then adjust. As long as I have some clearance I should be okay.
